 SWA has a model they use at MDW that taxis sideways

I've learned something new also. I never really paid any attention to the 737 as it taxis. Thanks for the info.

Its do to the fact that the 737 can land in a crab without correction. The main gear tortions slightly which causes the illusion of the sidle taxi appearance of the 737

Interesting.

It is not an illusion. The main gear of some 737s castors ever so slightly. Our 737-400 do castor but the -700s don't. Guys complained when we got the -700s because landing in a slight crab would send a shudder through the airframe and ruin a otherwise good landing. Interestingly this slight castor caused our Heads up guidance hardware some problems when we tried to certify lower take off minimums. It seems the tracking and display software did not like the fact that the tail did not follow the nose. I don't know the status of that certification effort because I'm no longer in the 737.

Amazing

Here we are, pilots who are talking about something other then furlough, crappy working conditions, low pay, union issues. Simply and totally amazing. :)

The 747-400 allows for 7 degrees of nosewheel steering (left and right) with the rudder pedals, otherwise everything else is done with the tiller. Also, the main body gear is steerable and will engage when the groundspeed is decreasing through 15 knots, but it is inhibited when the groundspeed is increasing through 20 knots.

The emb145 has a captain side only tiller.
