Are all carriers now requiring a passport to jumpseat from Alaska direct to the lower 48 (no stops in Canada)? I know Alaska does.

Passports are required for all domestic OAL CASS jumpseating. Doesn't matter from where you starting or are going to, you will need one.

Passports are no longer required by TSA. Prior to September of '07 passports were required by TSA because pictures were not yet required. After pictures became required TSA dropped the passport requirement. Unfortunately, most carriers had incorporated the passport requirement into their Ops Specs, which makes passports required by the FAA. In some cases the passports are not in the Ops Specs, but because the info is given in the screen data the agents assume it is required.

Alaska Airlines (and Horizon I think), not only require a passport for CASS, but also require CASS for the cabin (if you are a CASS carrier). It is tied into their JAX(sp?) system, and will deny a jumpseat to anyone coming up "denied" in CASS.....even if it is for a cabin seat....unless something has changed recently......I don't work for Alaska, so maybe someone who does can speak to this subject better.

The bottom line is carry your passpost to be safe, but CASS, and TSA no longer require a passport.

I jumpseat on Hawaiian from time to time, they also ask to see my medical.

Thanks that answers that question. I jumped on Virgin and when I pulled out my passport they said they didn't need to see that. I've also noticed some UAL and AS agents don't look at my passport anymore. AS does enter your pilot information though. They had an issue earlier this year with someone not in CASS riding up front.

You know, I've heard that before but I jumpseat regularly on several different airlines and I'm yet to see that being put in action. In fact, I always ask the gate agents if the heard that eventually passports will not be required - they always say - Huh? really? That's the first we've heard...

FYI

I jumpseated online (FDX) from ANC-MEM the other day just to be safe, since my passport is out having a visa renewed. The NWA jumpseat from MEM-VPS didn't require a passport. Didn't ask for my certificates either.

We require Passport, Company ID, License, & medical due to a prior incident already mentioned......carry it all. We have jumpers all the time going to and from ANC.
