Gentlemen,

Respectfully, trying to determine which job is more stressful isn't a competition, so I'm not sure why it's even an issue. It's not like there is a prize to be won for performing the more stressful job.

What I believe is the ultimate issue (because y'all are truly interested in my unsolicited opinon, right?) is that the Fraudulent Aviation Administration has been taking money out of ALL of our pockets for years with their (in no particular order):

-Incompetence in upgrading the ATC system (read: fuel burn)
-Abhorrent culture for the ATC guys and gals (read: contract and numbnut supervisors, to name two.)
-Capitulation to the ATA (read: FAR duty days/rest periods and the resultant fatigue).

Needless to say, I'm a big fan of ATC with an opposite sentiment in my heart for their boss(es).

If you think that your job (ATC side) is more stressful then we'll just have to respectfully disagree.
In the last two weeks my squadron has had three near-midairs (as defined by the Naval Safety Center), a loss of engine oil resulting in a single engine approach, and today I had a wing unlock caution (remember my wings fold). Probably more but those come to mind while I sit here.
I only know one side of the coin and like I said - I couldn't do your job so I won't be learning that side of the game.

Yeah, I can't relate to that kind of flying. My stuff mostly has a coffee pot in it.

He shoots, he scores. You nailed the FAA ATC management there.

As for USMCFLYR and me, I think we were posturing to see who bought the next round.
At O Club rates of course.

Not at all....I'll gladly buy ANY ATC'er a round or two that I come across. If you read from my very first post in this thread I said that I couldn't do your job! ;)

As a B767 International Captain for Delta Air Lines, rerouting airliners for the purpose of controller training is reprehensible. ATC serves us, we do not serve them. Wasting jet fuel on unnecessary reroutes to advance controller training does not advance the safety of a flight either. It inhibits it. Fuel is the ability to safely continue flying.... it is the "life blood" of a crew and their passengers. Gonna need that extra gas someday when things fall apart.... guaranteed. Wasting jet fuel on controller training is not gonna fly with any airline management team either.

Thanks for letting us know your thoughts eleven years after the story broke.

Someone must've just gone through Captain training. Look how important he is!

Hollywood, is that you?

[My name is] Captain George, call sign Hollywood.
I'm glad to have you on board, I'll tell you right up front a bold statement...
in all your travels, I'll be exactly the captain you've been looking for.
We're going to back that up with a lot of performance.
There's lots to talk about but I will be succinct.

[weather and flight time]

The performance we talked about,
I'm known for taking care of my passengers, my aircrew and my airplane no matter what the situation.
I do that by not taking shortcuts,
not interested in compromises,
I will not listen to excuses up here,
I've been flying these airplanes for 40 years total,
Do not be confused about my callsign,
I have indeed acted in four films,
But my primary joy in life is flying these airplanes.

10 years [before that] I was in the United States Navy,
I flew war time missions in peace time,
All off the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Nimitz,
I amassed over 400 [carrier] landings during that period,
It took me to northern Africa, parts of the middle east and some missions that will have to remain undisclosed.

[Delta anniversary]

I have flown the biggest airplanes on the Delta property,
Occasionally I might look at some of the smaller ones,
Summation of all of this,
I really know what I'm doing,
And I really will take care of you.
Humor is always welcome, these flights are personal, we are going to treat them as such. Brings a little lightness
Also I run a cabin with mutual respect. We treat you nice, you treat us nice, do unto they neighbor. Not really an advanced concept, that's mainly operations here at Delta Air Lines.

So I hope I passed the audition this afternoon, we're going to go anyways.
And you ease into that [deck chair?]
I am Captain George, I'll take care of the business end of your ticket, and I have got you. I'm out.
