“Airplanes are becoming far too complex to fly. Pilots are no longer needed, but rather computer scientists from MIT. I see it all the time in many products. Always seeking to go one unnecessary step further, when often old and simpler is far better. Split second decisions are needed, and the complexity creates danger. All of this for great cost yet very little gain. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want Albert Einstein to be my pilot. I want great flying professionals that are allowed to easily and quickly take control of a plane! ” From President Trumps Twitter.

I’m not sure what his argument is here, does he want us to be dumber (not like Einstein), or smart (great flying professionals)?

You’re making a mistake in assuming this was a coherent thought.

He’s not wrong. Airbus and Boeing have all these new “help” features installed on newer airplanes, because new pilots don’t have enough skills to actually fly the airplane.
Having flown with a bunch of Ab Initio pilots, I can tell you they don’t have basic pitch and power skills needed to fly. And don’t even get me started on crosswind landings.

That says more about your company and it’s standards than anything else.

The 737 is not a newer plane. It’s an old a$$ plane they are trying keep flying under the same type rating with a bunch of bandaids. If Boeing has gone out and actually designed a new plane we most likely would not be seeing this issue.

If you have ever been an instructor, you know that the worst students are doctors etc. All book smarts/ego and no skills. Letting pilots with 75 hours TT fly large jets is the reason these jets now have “help” features.
