College Student Looking For Advice

Hey everybody,

This is my first post on any sort of online board. I am currently a student at University of Illinois in the aviation program. I have all hopes of becoming a pilot someday but I don't have the "uncle" in aviation that everybody else has for advice. I currently am getting my private but have intentions of proceeding to obtain CFI. I will also have a degree in finance. I am wondering if spending the extra 10 grand to get CFII and MEI is worth it (i think it is from what i've heard), and where i should be looking for a job in the next six years, whether it be a commercial ariline, flying checks, working in the VLJ market, or flying packages. Any advise would be great.

Thanks

Trust me, you will find many helpful uncles here. I will leave it to the pros. But as for me, my advice is yes it is indeed worth it. But then again it all depends on how badly you want it. You may want to read a few threads, which I am sure will answer most of your questions.

While you are in "lesson plan mode", get the other two, both are very helpful for different reasons. You can get them at asmall school or FBO. I would estimate CFII at $2K, MEI at $3K.

There's a fourm on here for flight training. Check it out. As a CFI myself, I'm quickly finding that I need my II so I have move available students (more students= more pay). Since I only have about 50 hours multi. I'm going to have get my MEI because I can't afford to buy time for that golden 100 multi.

You're already a student in Churbana, try and get on there as an instructor. University flight departments often mean bennefits like healthcare, which is nice when you're not making crap. They also mean you'll always have a steady stream of students. You may not build time as fast but you'll typically get more multi time than someone at an independent school.
