Wia
I know many of you guys from the majors have gotten a type rating through the workforce investment act. My question for you, is THEY need a letter stating my layoff, etc etc etc... the letter HAS to say "not subject to recall" How have you guys gotten around this. I honostly dont think I will ever be recalled at my airline (Comair) How have you guys done this? It sounds like I have a pretty good shot getting a WIA type on a citation. Thanks

All I know is: many have tried, few have succeeded.
There was a fair amount of this going on during the post 9-11 days. Very much varies by state to state, even county to county. With budgets being squeezed, good luck getting a $15,000 type ride paid for by the taxpayer. Not to say it's hopeless, but from what little I understand, it's pretty much a cripeshoot. I think you need to go and actually speak to your local unemployment office with as much data as you can put together and see what they can come up with. |

What about a written statement saying you'll resign your seniority number? (if you want to that is)

When trying to get WIA funds for training it ALL depends on your state. It will even be different from county to county within your state. I just got back from Higher Power with a new 737 type that was covered by MI. I was beating my head against a wall trying to get this approved, until I found the right person to talk to. Within 10 days of my first conversation, I was scheduled for class.
I can help out if you live in the Metro Detroit area. Wayne county is the county you want ot go through. They are use to doing this and understand about pilots. Good Luck, N2F |
I dont know how up to date is this information, but I hope it helps!!
Workforce Investment Act Funds The Workforce Investment Act (WIA) gives funds to help displaced workers obtain the necessary training to find work. It is a federally funded program but each individual state gets to choose how they distribute the money. Each state has a list of "approved" courses and schools. The types of training vary greatly from state to state, and the amount of money that they give an individual also varies from state to state. Some states have a $2,500 limit others have paid $18,400 for A300 type ratings.
