Fellow Pilots:
Please accept this most recent addition of “Where we are” for your review.
WHERE WE ARE (12/04/2008)
Mid morning today, the National Mediation Board (NMB) advised the JBPA that a decision has been reached with regard to our voting window and general election time line. Below, please find the summary of that data for your review. The publically available NMB representation manual remains a valuable resource for understanding this process and its mechanisms. (National Mediation Board) Furthermore, JBPA volunteers stand ready to answer your questions regarding this important process at any time.
Scheduled NMB Mailings:
Notice and Sample Voting Instructions 12/30/2008
Voting Instructions ID numbers and PIN information Mailed to Employees 01/06/2009
Voting Period:
01/06/2009 through 02/03/2009
Scheduled Date for Voting Tally:
02/03/2009
We are pleased that the investigator has assigned the voting window in such a manner as to allow for the consideration of the holiday season and all the challenges that it represents. Your right to make this pivotal career decision requires your full attention and housing the election outside of a period of distraction underscores a deep respect for that choice.
With the voting window now defined, please contact Mike Sorbie or Bill Evans immediately if you will be in a position to have limited access to US Mail for any reason. If you know of any pilots who may be faced with this challenge, please contact them personally and direct them to our attention so that we can assist them to the maximum extent possible.
Respectfully,
Your JetBlue Pilots Association

The worst airline to work for is one where a union has just been voted on the property. Conversely, the best place is an airline where the pilots are always just about to vote for a union.
Obviously this is an over simplification. My point is that once the union gets voted in all progress towards better working conditions stop and negotiations begin (someday). Most companies, I know of, take the arrival of a union personally and do everything in their power to stymie the progress toward a contract. One of my favorite tactics? "To get something (a contract) you have to give up something!"
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I work for a union carrier but mine has been ALPA since the beginning. But, I would never want to go through the starting of a union again. (Did that a WestAir)

The pcrb clearly and definitively shows that we, are one of the lowest compensated pilot groups in the industry. Union pilots on the other hand, have higher wages, better protection language and increased retirement compensation packages. Vote yes and squash those who say voting in a union will turn us into "just another airline."

DAL, CAL, and SWA ALL pay their 3rd year pilots a lot more than $55/hour!
How's that for a difference?????
But, like Waterboarder says, who wants to be "just another airline".
Right Water????????

Everyone is entitled to their own vote and that is respected, but if you chose to not vote in a union you are doing yourself a huge injustice.
The pcrb exposed areas that show we are well underpaid and have substandard benefits. JetBlue management had the opportunity to address and fix the problems. Some received a one percent raise, while others received nothing and this is how we were rewarded??? The 190 Captains with their 10 percent raise are still being paid regional jet rates. You have F.O.'s making 55 dollars an hour after 3 years of service, which is probably the most degrading payscale in the industry. If we had a union do you think our pay and benefits would go up, down or stay the same??
This garbage about how we are the greatest group of employees is getting tiresome. Talk, talk, talk...... the best way management can confirm these ideas is through a better quality of life for my fellow pilots by raising our standard of living. Telling us we are great does nothing for our pockets, nothing. We deserve more and once this union is in place we will be on a path to better be represented by one voice that puts our concerns first.
It is a fact that management had a chance to avoid us unionizing but failed to follow the pcrb's recommendations. The more I think about 1% raises the more insulted I feel. Sorry, but if management isn't going to look out for us, we will do it ourselves.
