Delta losing Delta Shuttle to RJ's

So much for mainline flying...

Shuttle ops starting move to E-175sDecember 8, 2008

Starting in January, we’re beginning the transition to Embraer 175 jet aircraft on our Delta Shuttle operations between New York-LaGuardia and Washington, D.C. We fly the LGA-DCA route currently with MD-88s except for two daily flights operated by Shuttle America with E-175s.
On Jan. 5, half the LGA-DCA schedule will be operated by MD-88s and Shuttle America E-175s offering the same ground and in-flight service as today. On March 28, the route will be operated entirely by Shuttle America E-175s.

I kinda hate to say it, but this kinda a case of "you make your bed, now lie in it." DL/NW ALPA had a rare second chance to take the firm line on scope when negotiating the joint contract, and chose to concentrate on other things. The JCBA passed by wide margins. I don't know why 76 seat flying isn't desirable enough to expend negotiating capital on until it's done under the Shuttle brand.

Because, for those who are uninformed about what went on with the JCBA, they were not Sec. 6 negotiations. It wasn't advantageous for DALPA to go there at this time because the company wanted too much for opening scope. From your posts though, it sounds like you believe all the 70+ flying should be at mainline. Will you still support that view if we do recover the flying and instead of being merged or stapled, your company closes and you get furloughed instead?

Not the FIRST time it's happened.

After 9/11 some of the DCI carriers were flying some shuttle routes out of BOS.

Some of those regular business travelers that were accustomed to the spacious seats on the DAL NG's were less than pleased to now be riding on a "smaller" RJ.

True - but the Delta MEC grieved that as a Section 1 violation.

DL is trying to remain competitive with Eagle on the shuttle routes... ;)

Yes, I believe all 70+ flying should stay at mainline. It's an issue a whole lot bigger than what happens to me or any other regional pilot flying them. I'd take my chances applying to fly it at the major...
