Any more info on Delta reductions?

Wasn't there a shareholder meeting today that was supposed to shed some light on the reductions announced a couple weeks ago?

The Investors Meeting was held (and aired) today. No discussion that I'm aware of, and I listened to much of it, about the reductions in capacity.

Buzz are you the author/writer/lecturer?

Av8r,

I'm not telling you what to write, but 2 weeks before Christmas starting a thread with the title "Delta reductions?"

I guess I'm tired of reading threads like this and they end up starting with "I heard from my next door neighbors wife's cousin that xyz is laying off." It's really not cool and just puts our fellow pilots on edge for no reason. Sorry just my opinion.

His profile says CRJ FO. Perhaps he is trying to get clarification as to whether they will be regional or mainline. But I agree, the thread title could be worded better.

I listened to it and no further reductions were announced. Most of the webcast was positive news fwiw.

Sorry, but Delta announced 2 weeks ago that they would be reducing the schedule. We are just waiting to hear all the details and most expected it to be on the webcast.

Christmas or no Christmas people should remember not to get stirred up about something specific until it actually happens. As for a reduction in seat capacity, if Delta puts a 757 on a flight from NYC to BRU instead of a 767, that can be seen as a reduction in capacity with no change in how many pilots are flying. The big picture is sometimes deceiving. As for Christmas, I am making sure I get my son the G.I.Joe with the Kung Fu grip.

Is that webcast available to listen somewhere?

IMO, the best part of the movie when Murphy deadpans the camera after hearing that lecture.

sharkhunter 12-12-2008 05:50 PM

There have already been reductions.....270 Midwest pilots are on the street in the last 3 months....

Merry Christmas

No. My favorite part is when Eddie Murphy walks through the house and puts statues and jewelry in his pocket and they say to him: "This is your house, all of this is yours - you're only stealing from yourself. Why don't you understand that?"

Eddie Murphy says: "Oh...yeah I understand it. This kind of sh!t happens to me every week."

When I'm on one of the SEA - HNL or HNL - SEA flights, which pass each other on the track, I'll alway say "Look'en good Billy Ray". Most guys catch the joke and come back with "Feel'en good Louis"!

For now no furloughs. Looks like we will be parking main line jets for a short time. Displacements are coming.
Looks like no mixing of bases until we are one!

How can we park planes and not furlough? I guess the short duration makes the furloughs financially unfeasible?

acl65pilot 12-13-2008 04:16 AM

Correct. It comes from a good source. They need the jets for summer, IMHO. They are just going to keep em out of the game "temporarily" from what I am told. Now if it becomes a long term thing. I am sure that you will see furloughs.

Can I play a game, since it is a blog?

With all of the new ER flying coming this summer (Japan/Guam, Sal Verde-Africa), given that the ER is way over staffed right now compared to everything else I see, given the shortage of 88 B pilots in ATL and reduction of 88 flying in NYC, could we see:

A) the company displace NYC 88 pilots into ATL 88, maybe even bring over any NWA pilots if there is vacancies and they volunteer (not even sure they have overstaffing on any category over there to make that feasible - I'm making this up mind you :D)

B) 767 pilots not into the 88 but into the ER just to make it through the summer ER flying as we increase flying off the west coast of the U.S. and Africa. I mean, call me dumb, but even with the overstaffing I just think about last year and how understaffed NYC and ATL were on the ER and now flying is increasing. And if the 767 reserve coverage gets low then some 767 flying becomes ER flying like last winter - and in a diabolical way you (DAL) move closer to merging the ER/domestic categories. And then wait and see how the SOC shakes out in the fall and move people accordingly.

C) Then in the fall of 2009, you have your first joint AE and now pilots can move around into more permanent positions then they would if you displaced them in January 09. Take me for example, lets say I'm displaced off the ER to the M88, I don't mind at all, I'd like to get some landings in :). But if I'm not frozen in the M88 and the A320 comes to town, I'd like to go over to it and what if I do hold it? That means the company paid for my 767 training, MD88 training and A320 training in short order. Or just keep me put on the ER and in the fall I can bid off if I see something more fun or be pushed off as the SOC kicks in- but its still only 1 training cycle.

D) And if Joe Biden is right, and there is a major terrorist attack in the U.S. or world (we are a major international carrier now) after January 21st, then all of this just goes you know where in a hurry.

What I am trying to do is think of how to minimize training cost before you have an onslaught of movement post SOC. I'm just playing a game, with your livelihoods.
