Thanks for the update on the pay scale. Looks like my info on that was severely outdated. I haven't read the new contract yet!

World Airways demise

With the two recent law suite against World Airways (the pilot for wrongful termination and the stranded Nigeria passengers) and the delisting from the NASDAQ, how is this going to affect World Airways? Anyone with inside information who works their?

Was the delisting from the NASDAQ a result of taking over North American Airlines last year (and their balance sheet) or was this trouble in the making before hand.

I was considering applying for a position with World Airways, but it would help if all information pertaining to these issues were known before hand. Thx

Just read the compensation and scheduling sections and don't worry about the rest - otherwise ignorance is bliss! Whatever you do, don't read scope, it'll seriously harsh your mellow!

Payscale on this site is very accurate for those who are curious. Add 4% as of March 2007 and 3% as of March 2008.

Conversely when things are slow, as they are now, you are home a lot. I worked 6 days in March, and have worked 4 so far this month.

>Q: How much can a new hire expect to make first year?

With the new contract first year pay has increased to 57.88/ hour. 65 hour guarentee means $3762/ month or $45144/ year. When things are busy you'll make a lot more - I had 109 hours pay in Feb. Scheduled lines with higher pay always go senior, at least in LAX.

>What kind of flying does World do more cargo or charter? Do pilots get to fly >both ops or are they just limited to one? Seems like it would be cool to be >able to do both.

Right now I think our mix is 11 pax to 5 freighters with the one DC-10 going away. You'll fly both, which is really nice. I prefer cargo, but that's just me.

Whiskey Pilot,

I am in desperate need of some information about the interview process. I've been called for another interview sometime in the very near future and cannot get a hold of my buddy overthere. Is it a technical or more of a HR interview style. I interviewed with RK at the Air Inc. thing, and that was more of a "get to know you" deal. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,
PtP

wldplt,

Thanks, I checked that and the "will fly for food" site. Not a lot of info, but doesn't sound as though you need much either. When I did the initial with RK and Jason, it seems as though the main concern is that you are the right type of person. My buddy Dave introduced me to all of them and it all seems like it would be right up my ally!!

Wish me luck, and thanks for the help!!

The Nigerian lawsuit has been given class action status. No telling when the case will be tried

http://www.waclassaction.com/

The pilot lawsuit has been settled for 2.8 million. The jury award was for 12.5 million and that money was set aside in the 3rd quarter last year. Most of that will now show on the books as profit. This lawsuit was against North American by the way and was filed before World bought them.

The delisting from NASDAQ is the result a combination of events. NA accounting practices were substantially different from World's since they were privately held and they had to be brought into line with those of a publicly held company. At the same time the Sarbanes Oxley law created new and difficult accounting standards that a lot of companies are having trouble complying with. So much so that many companies have left the exchanges all together. Hopefully World will finally get it together and be relisted.

World recently paid off it's stabilization board loan early and is essentially debt free with cash on hand. Plans are to bring some 747's online in 2008. Of course we're losing some MD-11's in about the same time frame and the future of the DC-10 is up in the air right now so no net gain. Mgt has stated they want World to be an all cargo airline in the future with NA doing the passenger work. Who knows how that will work out.

Hope this helps.

YES, that helps. Just wanted a first hand experience from someone who may be in the know. I would think World would hold onto its' military contracts transporting troops and supplies, as it is famous for. What hapened to that business? As for NA, hopefully that pax business can pick up, but only if they do not treat pax like the Nigerians who were stranded. I feel like management really dropped the ball on that end.

North American is also an AMC carrier and uses their 767's for that. AMC also uses freight carriers to move cargo and World has done some AMC freight work in the past. We're still doing AMC pax work and will be for some time in the future as it will take some time to transition to all freight. Business for AMC has slowed down somewhat though. That's our bread and butter and without it making a profit would be tough. I hope we keep AMC on the books for a long time to come.

As for the Nigerian fiasco, I don't understand why mgt wants to be there. Nigeria is one of the most corrupt countries on Earth and we got in bed with a disreputable operator over there who pocketed all the money and walked away. He even named his company Rite-Time World Airways so the stigma of his failure associated with World. World's mistake was refusing to return the stranded pax. We lost a bundle on that deal and stand to lose more with the lawsuit.
