I agree with your assessment about 2009 prospect. I thought the economy would recover in 2009 but it doesn't look good right now.

It does sound like the lines are weak, but as you get larger (up to what, 36 planes?) there might be a better selection of trips.
Someone hit the nail on the head - I can see many military guys doing the guard or reserve thing instead of flowing down to Compass or Mesaba. It would be better financially than Compass.

I think it's high time ALPA and EVERY junior pilot revisited this age 65 BS. It's hurting everyone now. With the economy struggling like it is, the last thing we need is senior-over-60 pilots hanging around because "they love flying so much". I'm sick of hearing "excuses". I've heard several do nothing but BRAG about how much money they have. 
If you love flying so much, take some of that retirement money and go buy a plane...then fly till your hearts content. Sorry for the thread drift, it's just that I'm sick of seeing pilots go BACKWARDS in this industry.

The only way Compass would get bigger is if DL-ALPA further loosens the 120-airframe restriction on 76-seat aircraft...something I am NOT advocating, FWIW.
