It was my understanding that at Compass, as DL furloughs more, then the DL furloughees at Compass would be flushed out the bottom.

Now, as others have pointed out the astronomical training costs would wipe out Compass' cost advantage and make furloughing a costlier proposition, so Delta may choose to remain "fat" and not flow down that many. I personally don't see how we can avoid at least some flowdowns/furloughs unless the economy turns around quickly (which I don't really see happening).
That's true and I did not address that point but the total number of pilot slots available for flowdown still remain at 333. That's the point I was trying to make.

I agree with your assessment about 2009 prospect. I thought the economy would recover in 2009 but it doesn't look good right now.

This is correct. I did not address that part.

DTW trips have varied. This next month we have a lot of 4 days followed by a 2 day. The trips have gotten worse in the recent month. I live in DTW and besides the day trips which I cannot hold I get to do 4 days. Most trips are commutable unless you get that 530 show on day 1 with a midnight release on day 4. Yeah it suck
Thanks - I live in the DTW area, so your response was great.

It does sound like the lines are weak, but as you get larger (up to what, 36 planes?) there might be a better selection of trips.

Someone hit the nail on the head - I can see many military guys doing the guard or reserve thing instead of flowing down to Compass or Mesaba. It would be better financially than Compass.

I think it's high time ALPA and EVERY junior pilot revisited this age 65 BS. It's hurting everyone now. With the economy struggling like it is, the last thing we need is senior-over-60 pilots hanging around because "they love flying so much". I'm sick of hearing "excuses". I've heard several do nothing but BRAG about how much money they have. If you love flying so much, take some of that retirement money and go buy a plane...then fly till your hearts content. Sorry for the thread drift, it's just that I'm sick of seeing pilots go BACKWARDS in this industry.

Just took delivery of the 36th and last airplane, and the last couple of FOs are finishing up training now. This is as big as it gets. I'm sure the lines/pairings will change, they change every month as NWA hands down different orders on what we're going to fly. They may also shift flying between bases and/or open or close bases as the merger progresses, of course.

The only way Compass would get bigger is if DL-ALPA further loosens the 120-airframe restriction on 76-seat aircraft...something I am NOT advocating, FWIW.

I laughed so hard when I read that part.

Great post JungleBus, I agree with everything in there.
