Alaska officially furloughs 32 today (05JAN09)
For the first time in 28 years, Alaska Airlines’ management followed through with their plans to furlough 32 pilots.
Here's to getting you all back soon. |
Sorry to hear about it. Any idea how long they will be on the street?
Past formulas from other airlines used 24 months as the normal furlough period in order to be cost effective due to displacements, training and retraining. Since Alaska is all 737s, wouldn't these costs be reduced considerably? |
47 more to be furloughed 2 Mar?
Rumour has it that 47 more will get furlough notices soon - based on bid results that came out today.
Alaska's in better shape than that, must be for contract negotiations , Any confirmation/other opinions  |
Anyone know how far back the hire date went on the furloughs? Sorry to hear the bad news, best of luck to all affected.

Damn tough break guys/gals.....such a low number to sideline, good luck getting back ASAP!

Anyone after 8/19/07 is on the street.
The 47 that will get the letter this week are not even listed on the new seniority list. |

Calls went out from base CPs to those being furloughed March 2nd. I'm part of the original January 5th group that turned in our ID badges today. Sorry to hear that there will be more joining us.

Sad to hear of more people getting furloughed. Best of luck to you and everyone else at the Air Group. |
