There's plenty to not like, but a few things that didn't turn out as badly as feared. It seems like the junior guys are getting screwed on scope. There are so many small concessions that their collective weight may trigger many 'no' votes. The pay rates ended up at about where I thought they would (In other words, the same as in our temporary T/A of December). Thankfully, our work rules (a.k.a. quality of life) have survived intact.

As with all T/As, the devil is in the details. I'm just working off the bulletin for now; I'll reserve final judgement until I see the contract language. I don't know whether this will pass or not; I'm not even sure how I'm going to vote yet.

What is DCI? It refers to the 76seaters will be allowed at DCI

Also all month I have been shooting mostly nonpercision apchs in a heavy jet A300 at JFK VOR13L and MIA LOC08L every flight, so much for your ILS autoland every apch theory. I still have my first wife of 11 years and a beautiful daughter who I spend lots of time with. Sure I miss some special days but knew that when I took the job. Hope Skyhigh keeps up his ranting! Less inspiring pilot’s mean the pilot supplies will dry up and wages will increase. Ie the law of supply and demand. The same one he quotes for lowering our wages also works in reverse. My common thread it that it is a long and difficult road that does not offer your kind of success to easily. You made it and I am happy for you. From your unsympathetic position I am sure that you will soon be in front of a classroom of newbies telling them all how great it is and "if you try hard enough" and wear your red slippers you too will make it. I however don't believe that. I believe that effort will have an impact on ones chances but most of it lies with lady luck. No one knows what cards they will be dealt when they sit down to the table. You have been riding that ace for a long time now. Had you been picked up by another airline you might be preaching a different story.

Have you noticed a common thread that it has mostly only been FedEx pilots who have the same arrogance? Most everyone else has had their dreams discounted in some way and realize the fragile and changing nature of the industry.

As I mentioned before I think that everyone who wants a left seat at the airline of their choice should have it. If they wish to be paid like rock stars that would be nice too. However, if one cares to take a hard look those days are over. The future of the industry will be the 100K captain and wonder kids who really don't know how to fly basic attitude instrument since modern aircraft don't need them anymore. You fly one of the most automated planes of all. I am proud of you that occasionally you do a non-precision approach and have to land in cross winds!! In the near future people will be asking you what it was like.

I hope that you appreciate and take into consideration your good fortune. Are we all to suppose that you guys have been able to preserve your wages since you all have such good attitudes? :rolleyes: Perhaps it could be the result that FedEx is doing well.

I have yet to meet an arrogant FedEx pilot, and I've met a lot of pilots in the last 20 years.

You're all a bunch of jerks (despite the fact that he doesn't know any of you personally, professionally, biblically or otherwise) who obviously don't know how to fly (glass, ya know) so get those tents folded up and get the hell out of here. As I said not everyone makes it in any profession and I am sorry you did not. But you go too far when you demean my chosen profession as you have… ie nothing but a bunch of button pushers, no skill required anyone can do it etc. yea and just because I can drive a car I can be a NACAR driver. “RIGHT” Airlines are depressed right now and I make sure any inspiring pilot knows he or she needs to get a real degree to fall back on if things do not work out. I also explain you will be away for half of your life. I have good friends who have been affected as you have, one was my seniority at USAir now he flies a rj for a commuter airline. I have a lot of sympathy for them and wish them all the best. The only reason FedEx is now close to the top is because the top fell on us. You also assume I never lost a flying job “you know what happens when you assume” had my corporate aircraft sold and pilots not told so we wouldn’t leave until the sale went through, then told to hit the road.

I am not arrogant; very few people in my small rural home town even know what I do for a living. When asked I just say I work at FedEx. Also, the A300 was one of the first FMS aircraft with a very basic FMS compared to todays. Through my whole life I have heard if it was easy everyone would do it. I worked with my goal in mind tried to make good decisions, had a good work ethic and got very lucky to get my current job. I was hired when no one wanted to fly freight, who could have known this would happen. Yes I could be at a different airline and might be furloughed but It would not make me vilify the ones who did not as you do. As for my pay, my company is making record profits and every other FedEx employee gets a yearly raise, so YES I expect the same! Proudly flying the line:) hfbpilot
