Default Job options for furloughed pilots with aviation degree?

Hi,

I know it is very important to have a backup degree in case you get furloughed or lose your medical. I was wondering what job options a furloughed pilot with only a degree in aviation has? Could you become a CFI, Instruct at the University you graduated from, or fly overseas?? Are these ok paying jobs? Any other job ideas?

Thank you

Airport Ops
Airport Manager
FBO Supervisor
ATC
Dispatch
NASA (Research Division)
Crew Base Administrator
Jeppesen (various jobs)
Office positions at various Corporate Airlines
Ferry Pilot
Overseas Airlines (Pays very well...as long as you're willing to put up with the relocation and work rules)
University Aviation
CFI (Pay can be as good as any Regional FO if you're in the right town)
Flight Attendant (no joke)

Also,
Many jobs that only require a non-specific Bachelors degree (Sales, Finance, Insurance, Real Estate, Temp Agencys, Cintas, Enterprise Rent-a-Car etc...)

More options if you at least minored in something useful. (I minored in Business...opened a lot of doors believe it or not)

There are also a lot of skills you can work on while on those overnights.

I was a computer guy before I was a pilot and when I thought I might get furloughed last year, I started taking MCSE (Microsoft) refresher courses online.

In the state I am in, a CFI is a teaching certificate, so you can be a public school substitute teacher.

Nice, which state you reside from? Maybe I'll consider a move!

Pick your favorite major and throw bags at it, then one day you can check the box that said "I worked here," maybe it'll help. Never hurts.

If you work for a major in any capacity other than pilot it could help and it could hurt you. A disgruntled ramp supervisor could write up a negative evaluation. A relationship with a gate agent that went sour could come back to bite you. In my experience the more they know about you come interview day could be a good or very bad thing.

My advise is to avoid working for a career objective. Everyone gets sick or has a bad day. An HR department can use that information in the future against you.

I would recommend something other than an Aviation Degree. Health Care would be an excellent field. Hard to outsource your Doctor, Nurse, or Therapist. My wife gets 4 or 5 unsolicited job offers A WEEK, most of the positions pay more than the aviation job I worked 15 years to get.
