Default How much we've changed...

Since I am a newbie... I have been reading some of the classics about aviation. And a passage on "Fate is The Hunter" caught my attention. Here it is and tell me if I am wrong, but it doesn't seem that we as pilots behave much different towards each other as they did in the 40's...

"But the boundaries separating airline pilots are severely drawn; hence social intercourse between pilots of one line and those of another is uncommon. There may be an exchange of pleasantries upon meeting, or sometimes a renewal of an old acquaintance, but the rule is ever towards clannishness, and pilots regard those flying for another line as foreigners subject to a quite different, if momentarily interesting, society. There is also more than a hint of professional snobbery among the men of every line, each convinced that the methods, techniques, and demands of the other airlines must be somewhat inferior to his own."

With all the "my airline is better than yours" and the "our pilots are better qualified than XXX airline pilots" comments on this and pretty much every other forum... I wonder if we ever going to really unite and get what we need done in order to bring this profession to a fair level again...

Again please correct me if I am wrong... I sincerely hope I am.

No. You're right. Alaska's pilots are better than any other pilots.

No truth to this...it`s fiction ginned up in the mind of Ernest K. Gann. However it is true that Delta pilots are better than the rest....

Not every opportunity. Just when people need to be reminded.

Haha...true maybe to a small extent, but I think we all respect eachother and get along. Ask any commuter that regularly sits in the Jumpseat; differences are put aside for the most part!
