Exclamation My letter of response to Delta union Reps

Gentlemen,

Greetings! Let me start off by saying I appreciate all the hard work you all do in the union to improve the line guy's quality of life. I know that each of you want to improve our pay and time off. However, to say I am disappointed with this 76-Seat Jet Grievance settlement would be an understatement. We are being given a token assurance of our jobs, when in reality they are being outsourced. Here we have a clear interpretation of how many of these aircraft the company can use, and we are not holding them to it. This settlement undermines the pilot profession as a whole, as well as reducing our flying jobs at the mainline.

Therefore I would like to propose, through a resolution or otherwise (whatever you want to call it) we aggressively pursue bringing all 70 seat type flying back to the mainline and incorporate these planes and pilots onto the Delta pilots seniority list. My idea would be to incorporate Embraer 170, Embraer 175, Canadair 700, and Canadair 900 aircraft into Mainline fleets. There would be substantial benefit to both management and our pilot union. All the scheduling, dispatch, ops specs, maintenance would be in house reducing office space, lease space, redundant bureaucracies etc. which would make it attractive to management. As far as for the pilot group is concerned I think it is obvious how it benefits us, real job protection and more of the flying under better work rules and pay. Seniority integration of all these pilots would be a staple to the bottom of the current mainline list, with date of hire for seniority numbers within their group. If a pilot within that group would not like to move up the food chain in the mainline they could reject a new seniority number and remain on that equipment / 70 seat jet category. Fencing themselves off from other aircraft opportunities.

This is the direction I would prefer this to go, not a fickle assurance of no furlough. This would be a great addition to a Premier Global Airline, and truly make Delta an even better company to fly for.

So to reiterate, please move us towards more mainline flying, not giving flying and jobs away to others. Keep Delta flying done by Delta pilots period!

Respectfully Submitted,
Benjamin Wagner

Good letter. I don't think this will ever happen though. Unless ALPA invokes an S.O.S. which we know won't happen.

It will never happen unless we let our LEC reps know that we are 100% behind them if they initiate a recall of the MEC chairman. They all know he's a dictator, they're just afraid they don't have the support of the members. We HAVE to assure the LEC's that they DO have our support.

The "Dear Leader" has no clothes. Only the LEC's can invoke a recall. The LEC's will do it if we demand it.

Remember that the MEC chairman is NOTHING more than the single voice of the MEC/LEC. The chairman is not even allowed to vote under the by-laws. Yet he currently runs things via an apparent cult of personality.

Don't bother writing Moak of your disagreements. His opinion is that RJ's are good for Delta Airlines - thus your opinion is meaningless to him. Write to your LEC reps and tell them you support the recall of the MEC chairman.

In my opinion, the current chairman is like any other neighborhood bully. Once you punch him in the face, the cult of personality is instantly gone.

Default Excellent letter

Excellent letter and my thoughts are exactly in line with yours. Hopefully our union will do what is right for Delta mainline pilots and Not other union subcontracted pilots or mgmt. If this doesn't change certain union officials to understand the feelings of their members then I don't know what will. Perhaps a visit to the Machus Red Fox Restaurant in Bloomfield Township, Oakland County, Michigan (aka the last place Jimmy Hoffa was ever seen.) Mr. Moak can my Uncle Vitto and Sal buy you dinner.

Lemme guess, yer on the bottom of the SLI award, cuz I don't see the integating that yer proposing in yer letter. Yer letter says that you want everyone on the list junior to you. So where's the integration?

It is to get branded flying in house. Period end of story. Fact is that a 90 driver is at the max of his career expectations. A 9 FO is at the bottom of his. His place should be below his.

I'd gladly sit in the same spot on my list, to be appended to a mainline list if it would improve work rules for everyone. Seems like a better alternative than recapturing flying by having all the regional guys lose their jobs (though, if that's what it takes, then so be it.).

Who cares where he is in the list he is a Major Airline pilot and not working for a regional carrier, so why should he lose his job to regional pilot who is probably trying to get to his position. At least he has spell checker. We are talking about mainline jobs and not allowing management to continue to subcontract our mainline flying. You are obviously on a regional list so get off the major boards. You are not going to be awarded a 747 captain position for staying at the regionals if your regional airline company is absorbed by a major.
