AirTran "pool"
 

Anybody in the "pool" heard any news lately? I tried sending an e-mail to HR but haven't heard a word. Do we stand a chance getting a class date anytime soon?

You hope not.... If you have a job at all, dont consider airtran. This is a terrible place to work. If you got a class date tomorrow you would be an f/o forever. F/o pay sucks, the company sucks, Atlanta sucks, the lines suck, the hotels suck. Did I miss anything? I have hoped for years someone would come buy this ****ty company. It hasn't happened. I see self help or some type of chaos strike in the future. Dont waste your time with this place.

Good question. I sent an email too, but haven't heard anything either. Any AT guys see hope for the poolies anytime soon?

I may have missed the recall but don't they have a hundred and some guys on furlough>?

All the kids on the street have been sent letters to come back last we heard. New hires in spring is also the word. Have not heard of any numbers as of yet but things are moving forward. We had a class of recalls and upgrades last month and another this month. Hope that helps.

WOW, Airtran is always been great whenever my wife and I fly to Pitts. I guess that has more to do with the professionalism of the crews. I didnt realize some were disgruntled, they hide it very well, ( I guss we all do:D), weve never had a single flight on citrus that was not enjoyable...

What does riding as a passenger have to do with working for the place? Walmart is a great place to shop, but I wouldnt want to work there.

I heard some conversation recently that we maybe hiring by the end of the year. That was speculation dealing with fleet management. I am not sure the company knows its plans. As with most things I think they be re-active rather than pro-active.

That said, I like the people I fly with. I could definitely be paid more with better benefits. That day will come and when it does people will vote with their hearts. I accept my position as it is for now, till either something better comes along, or things change. I am here because I choose to be.

Captain Jeff, should grind his axe someplace else. If he is unhappy walk. He should take some responsibility for his life rather than complaining. Many other people would be grateful for any job. This is the kind of guy who would complain about gold nuggets in his captain crunch. I hate flying with gripers. Same old story hour after hour. They are quick to tell you how to fix your life without doing anything to improve theirs.

The process will run its course here and hopefully things workout for all

Who do you fly for Captain?

I think a lot depends on, unfortunately, the economy. If it shows some signs of recovery over the next few months, a company like Airtran can probably find some opportunities to take advantage of. If it continues to unwind and drag the equity and credit markets down with it, probably not much hope.

Airtran has been among the few to show any growth since 9/11 as the legacies have imploded, so they may impliment that approach again post "financial meltdown" as the legacies continue to downsize and outsource even as the economy begins to stabilize.

History tends to repeat.

Well, you lost your credibility with the "Atlanta sucks" quote. I would say, College Park and Hapeville suck-so get out of your little crash pad near Va. Ave. and enjoy the incredible culture, sports and venues that ATL has to offer. The High Museum, Peidmont Park, Botanical Gardens, Aquarium, the Highlands, NFL, NBA, SEC/ACC sports, NHL, MBL, the Carter Center, golf courses up the a**, mild winters, outstanding restaurants (the Buckhead group) just to name a few. It ain't NY, ORD, LAX or SFO, but......

You must be one miserable, sorry SOB to fly with.

Its a ****ty company. It may not be Mesa. But it is bad. If you can get or have a job anywhere else you should not be looking to work for airtran.

No I'm seldom content with the status quo.

There is LOTS of room for improvement. However it's not that bad. Some guys would ***** about free beer and blowjobs on every layover.

Terrible place to work? Do you really work at Airtran?

I left AT three years ago because I always wanted to fly internationally; I am doing that today, I love it and am very content knowing I made what was the right decision for me.

Having said that, I did not leave Airtran for any of the reasons you mentioned. True, the pay and the benefits (especially the health benefits!) should probably be better BUT that could be said about many airlines of today.

I worked at Airtran for two years and got to work with some great people; they were all down to earth guys and gals who wanted to do their best, fly safe and have fun.
I ran into a few very negative individuals but they were the exception to the rule.

Maybe the schedules have changed a whole lot since I was there because at the time I didn’t think they were that bad; if you’re looking for 2-days on – 5-days off type of schedules – well, few airlines have them. ;)

Hotels? They seemed to be all right to me but maybe that changed as well…

What hasn’t changed is that some people seem to be unhappy no matter what…
Hope you don't take it the wrong way, but IF things are truly that bad (and who knows, maybe you’re right?) why don’t you look for another place? I mean working for an airline you can’t stand must be tough on your body and your soul?…

Hey, doesn't hurt my feelings. Atlanta isn't everyone's cup of grits. I lived there for 20 years and found many great things, if you look. That is everything but a beach. I don't miss it that much, but to say it's sh**** is a bit much. Just like you leaving AT. Now if one never ventures out of P'tree City or Marietta or College Park, the great aspects of ATL would never be found. Believe me, I would love to be based in ATL compared where I'm based now.

I disliked the crime and the reverse discrimination attitude the most...

Good luck to the poolies....if we can get around this economic mess, I think we'll be ok. AirTran has definitely worked hard to beat Ch.11

And to add on to what was said about Atlanta....a lot of the pilots or FA's that complain about Atlanta don't go out outside of the small specturm of the airport to see the city because they're in some horrible crash pad at the microhell or something. I've talked to many at AirTran that complain...they don't live here and when I ask them where they've ventured out to they say "ahhh no place really".

Buckhead, Vinings, Midtown, Marietta, Peachtree City, Alpharetta....there's plenty of cool and fun places to live/hang out. I grew up in the East Cobb area...great area. Cleveland Ave might be "ghetto" but that isn't "Atlanta"....go to a bar in the Virginia highlands area and tell me you don't see some prime talent.
