What is the ALPA Unit 2? I've never even heard of this.

It is a group of the office workers and staff..........non pilot types.
Most of theses personnel are at the various MEC offices scattered around the country.

The impression that I got from the email is that they are employees of ALPA. Does that mean that our union's unionized employees are on strike? Hmmmm.... we're represented by people whose employees need representing? What does that mean about our representation?

Many of the personnel working in the MEC offices throughout
the country are Unionized employees. They are not ALPA members...
.....they simply are employed by ALPA (Which just so happens to
be a National Labor organization).
It is the Legal right of any employee group to organize
utilizing collective bargaining agent............Teachers, Police
and Fire Firefighter, Auto workers and electricians carpenters,
Grocery Clerks,Elevator Operators all do it.
Why is it such a big deal when an employee group (who happens to work for a labor union) wants to organize??
ALPA is a Labor organization who fights for worker's rights.
What would it say about ALPA if they denied or attempted
to undermine that right of it's own employees?
ALPA did not threaten to Replace these workers if they
elected to strike. (which they currently are)
ALPA did not try to get people to cross the Picket line.
They did not solicit scabs, if you will, or permanent replacement workers.
NON ALPA Unit 1 and 2 employees have not crossed the picket
lines. (Accountants, Lawyers and other non Union employees)
ALPA hasn't threatened to Fire anyone who didn't show
up for work.
ALPA did not utilize Classic Union busting tactics...........
There will be an amicable settlement this week in my opinion.
I wish more MGT's conducted themselves the same way
towards the Pilots as ALPA has towards their employees!!
As you know with the tremendous losses of salary in the Pilot industry, ALPA finds itself with less revenue (Lower Pilot W-2's = Lower dues = decreased ALPA ability to pay employees pay raises/benefits.
While I agree it might seem ironic that the upper ALPA MGT if you
will (BTW many of which are not Pilots ) has to be the one
to say "We can't afford to pay what you are asking" , the
fact is they are at least playing by the rules (truley negotiating in
good faith) are have not resorted to dirty tactics..............

Isn't it nice that ALPA is playing by the rules. If you make less than $59,000 ayear for a 35 hourr work week they reimburse you $4500 in FICA taxes!!
Too bad the pilots didn't strike. ALPA seems to do a better job when they are on the management side of the table. mmmm could it be that they ARe in bed with management. My dues are money wasted.

Switching gears. Just received this newsy item. Sounds like "selective memory loss". Of course, maybe most of the folks who were there in '84[Lorenzo] are gone now. http://www.thestreet.com/_tscs/stock.../10285217.html
