Very long, 44 megs, but WORTH IT! It was shot 150 feet from runway at JFK! High Quality.

I remember working in our flight office (directly across the Van Wyck from the PAA hangers) on a special project and not being bothered by the aircraft noise until suddenly this huge roar started. At first I thought maybe someone was going to land in our hanger! I looked over to the PAA complex and saw the Concorde taking off. I got to appreciate how loud it really was.

As a kid growing up on LI, I remember standing at the bus-stop watching in complete awe as Concorde would fly over on approach to JFK. It almost looked fake to me.

I couldn’t understand how the other kids weren’t impressed. It was the highlight of my day.

Does anyone know if Boeing is planning on continueing the SST program? Or did they scratch it? It'd be interesting to see if any airlines are still interested in a such an extravegant means of transportation! I HOPE SO!
Best,
Jason

There were a few times at JFK I slowed down or even stopped taxiing so we could watch the Concorde takeoff or land. Personally I always enjoyed the landings a little bit more.

based out of JFK in '03, got to share a holding pattern with BA's Concorde,we were at 11k, she was at 10, thunderstorms were playing havoc with arrivals, I will never forget that sleek shape glinting in the sun. She will be,and is missed.

Ahhh....great video.....still brings a tear to my eye!

On many occasions we watched, with fond amusement, as taxying aircraft mysteriously seemed to slow down or speed up, in order to position themselves for a good view of a Concorde departure or arrival.

The best view at JFK, at one time, was achieved by being number one at the holding point for 04L when Concorde was departing on 22R. As she turned right (to establish on the JFK 233R) as soon as the RoC >500 fpm, this would give the aircraft at the 04L holding point a real close up view of her.

In later years, the NA procedure/SID was amended to prohibit any turns before passing the threshold of 04L.

Port Authority police cars often seemed to find an important task that required them to park on the grass, right beside the runway edge, about two thirds of the way down, around the time of a Concorde departure! :)

Happy Days

Well you know Bellerophon, there was only "one" and it was always an amazing sight to behold, we all miss it, but you probably even a bit more than us:).

If you ever chat with DB (WOK), tell him I am sorry I never took him up on the offer of a tour, of course, now I am kicking myself, not to mention I missed out on the employee travel. Figured that thing would be around for a bit longer:(

Dizel8

I'll gladly pass on your message to WOK when I next see him.

He moved to the LHS on the B777 fleet, and is now an Instructor/Check pilot.

We've all made that mistake...isn't that just the story of aviation?

Grab your opportunities whilst you can!

Best regards

Bellerophon
