Otter time will be plenty valuable if it's PIC. Don't be too quick to go for greener (appearing) grass. Plan sounds as good as any right now.

sounds like a good plan.

Your plan is fine for now. The twatter will work for a time builder unless you are not getting 100 hours or so per month. You should fly your a$$ off until you get the 1000 PIC then look for a small carrier with bigger/faster equipment. (Keep applying to the majors however, you never know)

Keep in mind that todays plan will probably not resemble your path when you look back on your career. Remain flexible and keep plugging away.

Thanks Mike swaayze,

I am just testing the waters with you guys/gals to see what you thought because you have been there before and just seeing if what I plan on doing is justifiable from your past experience. I know I have a long road ahead and my plans will undeniably change as I get closer (that's what makes it interesting!), but I just want to make sure I'm on track for the time being. Thanks for everyone for all of your help.

After that I am thinking about getting some glass/FMS time in either the CRJ or ERJ for a year or two and then move on to a major like Alaska or Continental.
Could you guys/gals please give me your honest opinion on how well of a plan this sounds like and please don't make this a negative debate. I just need your professional advice on what the best route is to get to a major. Thanks for all your help!

Honestly, it is more about who you know then what type of time you have. When you are applying what will set you apart from the other 20,000 folks applying for the same 50 or so spots that month? The twin otter time, glass RJ ETC... will not get you a job at a major, thousands have the same experience.

does a major really consider otter PIC time as something valuable when theres people with CRJ PIC? Its not hard flying, they only go 160, dont even have retractable gear and mostly vfr, whereas the 1900 is harder flying.

im in the same boat, sure id like to take the quick upgrade and start getting turbine PIC but it just doesnt seem like majors value this time?

While otter PIC technically counts at some majors, I suspect that non-complex, VFR, short distance flying is likely to not be very competetive...whowever if you can knock out 1000 PIC quickly, do it, THEN go to a regional and fly RJ's...after 8 months of that you'll have glass, turbojet, 121 experience to go with your turbine PIC. You might get lucky and get hired by a major shortly after joining the regionals.

Oh, and it's 1300 PIC for SWA now.

PIC turbine (in DHC-6) beats SIC in RJ. Most important is internal recommendations. Keep in touch with your buddies that get on before you. ;)
