Thumbs up Tomorrow DB SW.. Did you get the call?

I thought I'd start a thread for the Decision Board for Southwest, Because tomorrow is game day. How about all you guys/girls that get the call let us know, and tell us when you interviewed so that we might see some sort of pattern. Good luck all .... Thanks

Every month Southwest has a pilot decision board that goes through all the interviewees from the previous month. This month's board is this week - either today or tomorrow depending on who you talk to.

I just found out that the new deal is to wait a day or two so that the letters and calls go out about the same time... Board today (Tuesday) letters out and phone calls tomorrow until the rest of the week. Although I could be completely wrong. Just rumors.... I'm climbing the walls-!!

Hi Guys,

Just returned from recurrent training and here's the latest:

The board did meet today (5/16).
Hiring 60 pilots/month through August.
Usually hiring 1 out of 4 interviewees.
Half get through the interview, half of the remaining get through the board.
50/50 mix of civilian - military.
36 firm a/c deliveries/year for the next 4 years.
Stopped interviewing non-type rated applicants for the next month only.
Looking for other a/c acquisition opportunities.
Probably going intl by 09.

One of the interviewers cautioned that they are seeing a trend with some applicants. More specifically, they are clearly the product of some serious prepping, to the point where when asked about a specific event from their career, they are telling the same memorized story - not one they actually experienced. Be honest, try and relax, and remember, they are hiring for attitude more than anything.

Good luck..........

Good info 4th. Also, don't forget about next month's pilot applicant open house at Dallas. It's a tool for the People Dept. to find motivated applicants. You can find more info on the Southwest page at Airline Pilot Central.com.

Got the good news call today!! I guess the board met yesterday. Don't know at all about % that were hired.

Also, chief pilot who called me said that for next month only type rated applicants are being interviewed because they don't anticipate a very long pool due to increased hiring forecast.

Best of luck to all the rest. I don't know the magic myself.

There is no magic. However, LUCK is quite important. Until the prep services find a way to help you choose your PD interviewer, LUCK will continue to play a major role in the way SWA hires pilots. The pilots are trying to play in someone elses park (HR) so they are mostly trying to get to know you instead of reading the tea leaves that prove your personality type that the TMAAT process is intended to accomplish. The PD people, on the other hand, are attempting to eliminate you. If you get lucky and draw a PD interviewer having a good week, you'll do OK. If you happen to get a PD interviewer who just got dumped by a pilot, or who enjoys the power of their position, you might have a slightly more difficult time. Nothing else explains SWA's hiring decisions; enough inconsistency exists to point to luck as a major determining factor.

Asbestos underwear firmly in place.
