Change in Alaska Airlines app process

The company just posted this on their internal email. They want this posted for all to see so here you go.

Thank you for your interest in working for Alaska Airlines! At some point within the last two years you have built a profile in our database and applied to the Future Pilot Hiring position. As you may already know we are now actively hiring Pilots. In an effort to review your current qualifications for this position we would like you to log back into your Candidate Profile and reapply for the Pilot position now posted on our website. You will be prompted to complete a short assessment once you have done so. The assessment should take you no longer than 10 minutes and is based strictly on the basic qualifications of the position. This will not require any preparation. Please note that once you select 'to begin the assessment' you will need to complete the entire assessment. Answer the questions in the order asked as you will not be able to go back and answer questions at a later time.
The current Future Pilot Hiring job posting will expire on May 22, 2006, eliminating the ability for new applicants to apply to this posting. If you have applied to this posting you must reapply to the new Pilot posting prior to June 30, 2006 to be considered for employment as a pilot for Alaska Airlines. Please note: this will not impact the date you initially applied online.
Once again, thank you for your interest in Alaska Airlines. We look forward to looking over your resume soon.
Regards,
Alaska Airlines Recruitment Team

Good luck to all

I filled out the assessment and I think there is a flaw in there.
There is one question they asked first: "Are you a US Citizen or have the ability to live and work in the United States": My answer was yes, I hold a green card.
Then the next questions is something like this, I don't remember the exact wording: "Can you maintain a current US passport?": answered "NO" since I am not a US citizen yet.
At the end of the assessment I got a message saying I didn't meet the minimum requirements.
A little while later I received an a-mail thanking me for applying and outlining the minimum reqs. On looking at them I saw that I exceeded them by far.
So I am assuming that the US passport issue was the disqualifying factor.
If they are not hiring legal residents then they should take out the part that reads".....or have the ability to live and work in the US" from the first question.
Anybody had the same problem??

I'll ask the CP about it. I'll let you know.

No wonder our pay is falling

No wonder the job is paying less!! Folks here w/ green cards willing to work for wages just above what they got from their third world country...HA.

I spoke to the folks at HR today and they say they are aware of the problem with the assessment. It came up last week with a Canadian pilot who does have a green card. If you want to email them, Corpjet, you can PM me and I will give you the email address of the woman to whom I spoke. She said they are going to contact those who had a problem with that portion of the assessment and should send an email to those applicants in a few weeks. You may want to wait for that email.

All I can say is to keep on top of it and good luck.

Mike

They know about the problem because somebody from Canada pointed it out. I don't know how they intend to identify those excluded by the error. The HR rep said that if you did not get an email in a few weeks to write them and tell them about it.

If it were me, I would write the HR folks and point out that you believe you are qualified but for the problem with the passport question. Unless you are annoying or rude you will not offend anyone and possibly move to the top of some pile. Who knows? You may get the interview call.

Alaska is going to hire record numbers in the near future. We have something like 70 retirements and some growth planned. Also some guys are leaving for other airlines (SW). That remains to be seen however.

I still can't PM you but IŽd appreciate if you e-mail me the address of the HR person at [email protected].
Thanks a lot in advance for your help
