I want one.

I'll again play the odds that he didn't see a 2,000 mph model rocket with a burnout time of just over 5 seconds. It probably had as much of a chance of being one of these 'J class" model rockets as the UFOs from the previous story ;) But - I guess we'll just wait to see if they come up with a plausible explanation.

You're a terrorist. You're obviously not with us, so you're against us.

When I was freight trash flying the back course into Boeing Field I had fireworks blowing up around me. It was the week before July 4th and the final approach course takes you over "boom city". 160 fireworks stands on the indian reservation. Pretty cool when the clouds around you are decorated with color flashes and sparkles!!! Seattle ARTCC is about a half mile away from boom city. When I told them that I kept seeing stuff shooting past my windscreen they seemed surprised. I politely asked them to go outside and take a walk passed the casino to see all the fun......our vector to final changed for the rest of the week!!:):)

No way it was a manpad. If someone went to the trouble to acquire one they would presumably learn a little bit about it's capabilities...they would not waste it on an RJ in the mid-teens, at the extreme upper limit of manpad capability with very-low to zero chance of a hit.

Agree 100%. Anyone that knows anything about weapons acquisition knows how difficult it would be to acquire a manpad domestically. If they were lucky to obtain one and be in the state of TX then a terrorist is going to go for max effect, casualties and fear. He would drive to DFW or Houston Bush (added effect in world news being named after a former president) and shoot down a jumbo jet on takeoff or landing. That would be an easy target. Trying to hit an RJ at 13k would be a very poor tactical decision and a waste of a few million dollars at least. Most terrorists are good at what they do and not that stupid.

Haven't we all seen some strange things in the sky while flying.

If you have ever fired a MANPAD or trainer you would know that the object you are locking up may not be the object that the missile seeks out.. at best you may see contrails and target that... or blindly target based on a lock tone at night.

MANPADS were found in raids in Mexcio, recently. And I do not credit terrorist operatives (vs management, leadership) with outstanding research. That is why this system was developed, and handed to the rebels as a fire and forget weapon... no training required, we devloped it for point and shoot.

A downed RJ would certainly get people's attention.

Did you miss the recent story of the guys in New York planning to down a C130... very close to the time of this incident.

How about the guy in phoenix a little while back that got some balloons with road flares attached to the and let them up above phoenix? Everyone thought ufos were out one night... Pretty crazy
