Interesting tidbits:
  • GoJet is not making $ (newer aircraft, low average seniority, low pay, no work rules - what does it take for them to make $)
  • Most regionals are making $
  • most everyone else is not
  • AStar is making $ (news to most AStar pilots, given the DHL situation)
  • Aloha Air Cargo is making $ (I'm sure this warms the hearts of all the former Aloha pilots)
  • Hawaiian is making $ (what happened to 'the cut-throat leisure market of Hawaii', where only 2 airlines can survive)
  • As usual, Allegiant is the most profitable as a % of revenue of all carriers. Good job Allegiant.

Would regionals be making money if it weren't for "fee for departure."

Probably. Whichever way they charge they'd be sure to cover their costs, and the majors would be happy to pay so they can spite their unions!

IMO, no. This issue (regionals making $ while mainline burns through it) was touched on in the Senate Transportation hearings today, though not throughly.

No. Just look at Horizon, if you consider them a regional.

Good post. Some surprises in there. AirTran is really cleaning up. JetBlue did too, I suppose, but it kind of seems like cheating when you're receiving large checks from foreign partners (not that I'd object if Air France gave big-D a few billion dollars!)

The Legacy Carriers really seem to be having problems, even after most of them went through bankruptcy. What an industry.

Wow...us airways did the best out of the legacy airlines...who would have thought NOT hedging would have been the best move. Even though it was stupid, however less stupid than the rest i guess.
