These should be the measurements of someone who is medically disabled. It should not be the new cut-off for a red dress. If I see a size 28 in the future, I will throw up on them and say, "I am sorry, but you are such a flabby pig and I couldn't keep down my lunch......but for "safety" reasons you better clean that up!"

As a typical guy I have no clue about dress sizes, so I asked my wife if she was a size 28...........

I woke up a few minutes later with her size 2 handprint across my face and her telling me they dont make size 28 dresses.

propsync 07-11-2009 07:03 AM

You can say she got it AAAAALLLLLLL!

Oh man I hope you are joking....lets just say a 64 in tall 130 lb girl is usually a size 6 sometimes a size 8 depending on brand - which is actually considered a societal average for women. Size 28 is large, very large. Size 18 is large - you would not find it in the normal ladies section at your local department store - to put it in perspective.
Making the discussion about the dress is hiding the real issue: I would argue a size 28 woman cannot be there for safety because her ability to fit in the aisle is questionable, let alone her ability to use an over-the-wing exit.

Eric Stratton 07-11-2009 07:26 AM

All joking aside, how wide would the hips be on a lady who wears a size 28?

Could she even walk down the isle without turning sideways?

Box Office 07-11-2009 07:30 AM

I seriously, seriously doubt it.

DustyRoads 07-11-2009 07:45 AM

I've seen some BIG flight attendants in my day, but I've never seen one that size.

BoredwLife 07-11-2009 07:56 AM

This makes me sick. Just another major problem with America. Fat people are lazy, pure and simple. Could you imagine a pilot who was the same size being able to pass a medical? FA's should have the same standards.

Gunga Galunga 07-11-2009 08:28 AM

thats not even close to an acceptable slump-buster.

when will people take more pride in their appearance and health?

I have seen some pretty fat pilots in my carrier. I'm no twig at 195 and 5/11 but compared to some of the pilots i see, i look like an anorexic. I wonder what kind of caloric intake some of those guys have.

yup, me too. and not fat. OBESE, as in 5'7" and 300 lbs. Even some of my captains who have a chunky belly suck it in when i do the flight controls test... i wonder what the obese guys have to do, slide their seat all the way back?

Nosmo King 07-11-2009 09:24 AM

It would not surprise me if the red dress is removed as an authorized uniform if the company loses this grievance.

Reggie Dunlop 07-11-2009 09:46 AM

I would think that stews that big would be more concerned with how many cheeseburgers they could cram in their roller bag than the style of dress they wear.

I'm just sayin.

On my airplane, the FA crew rest area is in the aft ceiling of the aircraft. It is accessed by a ladder and an opening in the ceiling. For the longest time I wondered why some of our wide-body FA's complained so much when first class was full. Then it hit me...they needed one of those seats for their crew rest because they couldn't fit through the large hole in the ceiling; much less climb the ladder. These same ladies did need to turn sideways when walking down the aisles.

And by the way, I'm not kidding.

He is definitely NOT kidding.

I think we can conclude that nobody likes obese FA's; much less obese FA's in tight red dresses and purple hair.

Is Cathay Pacific hiring?

I,m just saying .

Maybe we ought to bring back the old height and weight proportion rules that we used to have :)

We could always bring back 727s. We used to have an annual requirement that FAs successfully exit through a 727 overwing hatch during recurrent training.

Excuse me, now I have to go hide from some of our cabin crew...

FedEx1 07-11-2009 02:50 PM

Well, they aren't letting the guys wear it, so they are already "discriminating."

I had a FLL based FA that was an older woman and not in good shape ... she clearly wasn't RDQ. However, she had a red dress. How you might ask? She had it made. You could tell the red wasn't exactly the same color as the others.

Joking aside, the back seam of her dress was stretching and was on the verge of ripping. When she sat down, she had to keep her knees closed and had to pull the dress down because it was too tight and short. It was aweful. I don't know how she moved about the cabin.

They should restrict the size of some of the pax. On a recent commercial positioning flight I had a women who needed two seatbelt extensions shoehorn herself into the midle seat. The FA asked if there was anything else that she could do for this pax, women asked if she could have a first class seat. Then she asked me if i was grossed out by the obvious physical contact, since I wasn't in uniform and was on a paid ticket , I told her I was in fact grossed out. The FA moved me to another empty seat. This women would have been a deadly obstruction in an emergency.
