HAL....How is it?

For you Hawaiian guys out there....

How is it working for your company? What are the commutes like (being that I live in Dallas)? I just filled out the online app.

Rama 07-16-2009 08:29 AM

Its a good place to work, though I wouldn't recommend commuting from DFW 4 or 5 times a month.

If you got a job at Hawaiian, why would you not want to move there??

I would make the move to the west coast.

Rama (or other HAL pilots) - is your HNL-ANC flight seasonal or year around?

Thinking about moving to HNL in the next 6 months or so and would like to know what that commute would be like? I've heard some of our pilots (big brown) say it's not bad at all but I figured y'all would know better than anyone...

Sorry about the thread hijack but since it's about HAL I figured I'd be allowed to crash the party... ;)

Mahalo nui loa...

I'll try to get it back on track:

What is the hiring outlook? Minimums? Is it a young or old pilot group? What is the retirement forecast like?

So did you get any word back yet?

BoredwLife 07-22-2009 02:49 PM

I would like to add that I believe it is "How's it" not "How is it." :D

We have some guys interviewing. Locals first from what I understand and you should have a inside reference.

Good luck

No, none so far

Rama 07-23-2009 08:55 AM

There is no ANC flight anymore. Alaska flies that route now.

Thanks, me neither. Good Luck though! Let us know how it turns out and I'll do the same.

How are the trips? 717s mostly day trips, and 767s mostly west coast 2 days? What is the senority of the junior Seattle FO? Thanks for the replies.

717s are all interisland day trips that start/end in hnl.
767s are mostly west coast 2 and 3 day trips. samoa/tahiti are turns. manila 2-3 days. sydney 4-5 days.
junior seattle is 2000 hire.

Hawaiian is probably the most nepotistic airline out there, and they heavily favor locals/Hawaiians. Most of the Caucasian pilots there also seem to have roots in Hawaii. They probably aren't too interested in someone wanting to commute from Dallas. Jumpseating/nonreving is hard enough once a year for vacation on a flexible schedule, do you really think that's a good idea on a regular basis?

There are also a ton of Aloha and JALways guys that are probably being given first crack at the interviews, just a guess.

thanks for the reply hnldave. Any talk of a Bay Area base? Seems logical..

anyone hear anything about an interview? the job posting has been taken down from the website..

I have two good friends (presently furloughed from major carriers) that have interviews with HAL this coming week. I realize that the interview process currently taking place is relatively 'fresh'/new...not a lot of info floating around at this time. Does anyone have have any gouge, or know where to obtain (besides FlyForFood site - old info) any current intel on the interview itself??

Any advice or direction would be appreciated.

SC
