not exactly. If SWA purchases the company and replaces the airbus with 737's and closes the operating certificate then frontier becomes southwest, increases in Denver, and UAL is in a world of hurt. I'm sure many will just look at the financial implications for the pilot group instead of the negative effects of this buyout.

Or another airline in the south-east. Apparently DAL is taking a cue from the old NWA playbook of liking discounted used jets.

Now I dont have a dog in this fight, however it seems that Republic is an airline that knows how to get things done. SWA does also. I think either way it goes Frontier will be in a good position in the future.

This IS big news. Any idea IF Southwest is succesful getting Frontier, would they be able to keep the certificate to serve the Mexico destinations? Or would they have to do that under the Frontier certificate?

I don't know what this will mean for the F9 guys. It could be a great thing. However, this purchase needs to be approved by a judge. If southwest intends to just shutdown F9 (likely), a judge may not bite in a time where unemployment is nearly 10%. It wouldn't be the first time southwest bought someone and left the pilots behind. The precedent is there.
