Default Background Requested: Howard Attarian

As a UAL guy, I'm interested in any (printable) opinions on Howard Attarian, United's VP of Flight Ops.

I know he spent 23 years at NWA, and a brief stint at DAL....now at UAL, and magically an instant "Captain." His glowing bio in United's In-Flight magazine says he flew Eagles and was a Thunderbird.

I have heard vague references that suggests he is very disliked. I would like to know more, and/or why. I personally don't know the man, and have no opinion at this time.

My motivation: to gain insight as to where we are going.

Attarian worked for several years under Duane Woerth at ALPA National. I never saw any bad info on him when he was there. From the rare times I have seen him in ops he has seemed OK. Of course they put the best face on for the troops.

I have more faith in him than some of our previous leaders.

As a former USAF guy and current DAL guy, never heard his name. I'll ask around though. I've got some buddies who flew T-Birds.

Doesn't that say it all right there?

He was involved with ALPA and Duane Woerth almost from the beginning at NW. He was a little junior to me and pretty much a seagull. Went to Washington with Duane. Spent his last years at NW on ALPA and sick leave.

I was never impressed by him....

Kolshak is Attarian's boss. Interesting pairing by Tilton...also really interesting that Attarian tries to take the title "Captain" while he's disabled.

The sad part for UAL is they're getting the Delta managers that helped drive DAL toward terrible labor relations and bankruptcy (Kolshak, Quiello, Milone). DAL got the CAL managers that helped keep CAL out of bankruptcy (Campbell, Hauenstein, Cortelyou).

And for our sakes, I hope Hauenstein and Cortelyou deeply love all things ATL! I can think of no two better guys for our company and our network than them.
