I'm personally glad to see mainline recapturing some flying...especially in 2 high profile cities.

Yep, it's nice to see the larger equipment moving back in for a change. Unfortunately, CAL management has decided to SHRINK its mainline presence SUBSTANTIALLY, and move more RJ's/Q-400's into EWR. Word is out that the business traffic we've had over the years to DCA, ATL, and BOS is RUNNING to our competitors. No one can figure out what marketing/management is doing since our load factors have been averaging 89% for the past two and a half months. Even our Daily News Update said our flights are fuller than ever, and we're cutting mainline flying? I wonder if our fuel hedger is in charge now............ Incredible..................

Umm, they weren't really talking about CAL, but ok.

Is airways REALLY growing mainline capacity or are they just shifting things around? Weren't they just planning on cutting domestic mainline capacity a few months ago?

The two international routes we're getting from this deal will be mainline flown. San Paulo and Narita are pretty good routes. Brazil is a growing economy and Narita slots are hard to come by, so this to me was a good move.

how are they going to get to narita? Also are they going to be doing all those routes in and out of LGA with mainline? They only use mainline on the CLT-LGA route as PIT, PHLT and ILM are all regional.

You did not get a route, you got authority. Similar but different.

We will be doubling the amount of flying out of LGA. The details aren't out yet as to what will be flying and where but it should be out shortly. DAL is shifting away from RJ flying right now so its expected that most of this increase in flying should be mainline flying but i'm sure some will be done by the regionals as well. None the less an increase in flying is always good.

Re-read my post. I was just saying how we're LOSING mainline flying at CAL to the RJ's/Q400's while the other legacies are GROWING in the SAME marketplace. That was my point.

What doom and gloom are you hearing though?

I also wonder if anything can be read from the fact that DAL is keeping some gates at the old terminal while still taking over the entire US Airways terminal. I've never been in the Airways LGA terminal. Maybe an indication that DAL plans to use LGA for more mainline flights than what Airways was?
