AirTran

Does anyone have any info on Airtran?
More specifically ........

Min Days off
Commuter policy(if any)
Trip/Duty policy
Reserve Rules

Overall, is it a good place to work?

Anything is greatly appreciated!

It's a warmed over Valujet. What more do you need to know?

An associate of mine flys left seat on their 737s, unfortunately I havent been able to get a hold of him within the past month or so. If I happen to talk to him anytime soon, I'll ask him.

This forum was pretty good until the slime that posts on the other info web site began posting here.

Things here are not bad. I have been here for almost a year and half and there is not much to complain about.

Schedules are an average of 15 days off with about 85 credit hours of pay. Actually I have been getting 16-17 days off with 85-90 credit hours of pay.

Most of our pilots commute and CASS is being implemented as we speak.

Our health benefits kick in the first month after you start, keep in mind that it is only OK at best and not cheap. This will be worked on with our new contract.

As far Mr. Tail mentioning Valujet, well sure that is how this company began. Valujet may not have been the most admired place I guess but Airtran today is light years from what that was.

Bottom line is decent company, good pilot group, new aircraft, tons of potential.

Good luck.

Don't know how things are in the pointy end, but I flew AirTran (full fare)from PHL to FLL a couple of months ago and was very pleased. On time performance and good service; I'll definitely use them again.
The employees seemed to be satisfied and I've flown on a few carriers where it was obvious they weren't.

That's pretty harsh. That would be like saying that the senior pilots at UPS are all scabs and losers who couldn't get on with a Major airline. But that would not be nice, and I wouldn't say that...;)

Thanks Big Easy!
Do you happen to know how long guys are on reserve?
And....how much flying the reserve guys get?

Actually I think that a Mesaba management group bought the assets of Valuejet and merged them into AirTran, a small 737-200 charter operation. The Northwest pilots saw this as a scope violation and forced the Mesaba managers to remove themselves from Mesaba and they went on from there.

The only bad part of Air Tran is Leonard, who was VP of MX at Eastern and a Lorenzo boy. He did some very shady things at Eastern in terms of pencil whipping mx checks (his underlings took the hit on those when the Feds caught up with Eastern). He never was held responsible, but he was the man in charge.

AirTran has nice new jets and they pay a decent wage. You guys should be happy to be there.

You are partially correct with that assesment. The vast majority of the scabs however, are in management. Lots of scabs there.
