the best place that a friend of mine found 'art' was in the emergency mask. cut to fit and with the right 'art position' too.

Thanks for defining professionalism in aviation there Mr Morality. Let me guess, you just turned 22 and you've got the pilot thing all figured out. Or, your actually old and never did catch on. Let me direct your attention to some of the most professional, golden-handed, pilots to grace the skies - and, to whom the existence of this profession is owed: The army air corps pilots of World War II. They didn't have to hide the pictures in the cockpit - because they painted it on the nose - outside, for the world to see.
Here's the deal Jimmy Swaggert: the same people who are attracted to flying jets (and determined to fly them better than anyone else - ie, professionally) and seeing the world while doing it, just so happen to be the same who are not always concerned with your easily hurt feelings. So, if you don't like it, don't look. Stay in your room and watch PBS. But, don't think you can define professionalism in driving airplanes the same way you do in jobs at zero knots and zero feet - ie, management.

One of the funniest things I ever found in a cockpit was a wooden 12" ruler. Why it was there I had no idea. It was stashed in the co-pilots side chart pouch. I pulled it out and looked at it. All of the pilots had placed a dash at a certain length along with their name. What was so funny is that Carol's name was at the 10 inch point. I couldn't stop laughing.

Or perhaps they expect you to act like a professional?
The lawsuits were such that anyone in the airlines long enough to remember porn in the O2 mask will also remember when you as the pilot that had nothing to do with it could become liable for porn in the cockpit. The rule at Continental's redheaded stepchild of an airline Coex (post Tammy Blakely) was that if a porn was found in a conspicuous place in the cockpit then the previous pilot was liable and could be terminated even if they didn't put it there. Therefore, since you didn't know who (and it didn't have to be a pilot mind you) was going to be in the cockpit next you just needed to destroy it if you found it. In many cases it was flight ops and maintenance management, thanks to the threat of lawsuits, that was looking in the cockpit to ensure there was none. It wasn't so much about ruining the fun as it was preventing someone from having evidence for either a legitimate or get-rich-quick lawsuit.

And "Thank you" for pointing out the free-ness of porn on the internet. But, I'm pretty sure that it's not about really 'needing' to see porn that bad. It's more about camradrie, having a laugh, fun,................. nevermind. The fact that it needs to be explained means it probably can't be explained. I swear some people want to work in a cockpit that sounds like a conversation from NPR......... |

Yes, exactly like that - except, without anything that could make you laugh or possibly offend someone.
I think these are also the same people that dream of flying an airplane with no stick or yoke or even rudder pedals. Oh yeah, that would be sweet. Just a sweet-a$$ mode control panel and plenty of room to read the company manuals. |
When I started flying at Pan Am, you couldn't open anything at all without having a picture flop out. I thought it was amazing, until I jumpseated on TWA....those guys had taken it to a whole new level, as photos were everywhere, including about every other page in the aircraft log. In crew oxygen masks, under each seat, taped to the sun visors, in each ashtray, in the emergency rope compartments, and always, but always behind that cover for the rudder trim. Ah, those were the days. Everyone liked them, including the females who flew those jets, and everyone spent some time, each flight, hunting for them or adding new ones. Some of the ones the girls hid were downright hurtful, like the one of John Holmes. Damn, how can we compete with that.:D
