Default Rome hotel suggestions

I'm taking my wife to Rome next month. Anyone have suggestions on hotels? How about names and rates of the crew hotels?

What kind of price range are you looking at? American-style hotels in Rome are as expensive as most European cities, €150+. If you're not going to be spending that much time in your hotel room (hopefully not, you're in Rome!) then you can get a basic but clean room at a smaller family-run "Bed and Breakfast" for €70 ensuite, or €50 with a shared bathroom. I just stayed at Casa Carra near the Santa Maria Maggiore Basilica (50m from Vittore Emanuel II metro stop), nice safe & central location with lots of stuff around, good place.

I suggest searching the listings at venere.com. Only proviso is that I'd stay away from places right around Termini Station, particularly on the north side.

Casa Carra is in the price range I was looking for - under 100 Euro/night. Rain or shine, we won't be spending much time lodging. Bed and Breakfast looks like the way to go. Was CC recommended to you?

Hotel Abruzzi on the Piazza de la Rotunda. Wife and I had a nice room overlooking the Pantheon.

No, we had actually been planning at staying at another B&B but the flight filled up at the last minute (imagine that!) so I was just looking for a place that was cheap, central, and had good user reviews. Nothing particularly special about Casa Carra, I think there are a lot of B&Bs like it. Look on Venere.com for your dates and look for something with 5+ reviews and a rating over 7, that's my suggestion.

Looks like a nice place but €200 was about as much as we spent for 5 nights lodging in Italy!

...I need to keep my wife away from seeing these places on Piazza della Rotonda and Via Venuto, I have her nicely trained in the art of appreciating cheap dives for now!
