The biggest problem is that MOST (not all), pilots, like MOST of America are shackeled to their income. I've got many friends whom would like nothing more to move on to another career but are unalbe to because their lifestyle requires a large sum of money monthly to stay out of financial trouble. Meaning, they can't afford to start over again unless they can get, say, a minimum of 8k a month take home. So they are/have allowed themself to be a slave to their current job. I've also got many furloughed buddies whom now say it was the best thing that ever happened to them. Their furlough forced them to retrench their finances and follow another dream. It was painful but necessary to achieve the peace of mind they were longing for. I wish the best to my UAUA friends.

That is the same reason why small jet scope is so hard to maintain and recapture. Had a captain tell me yesterday on the commute that he had a mortgage, two car payments, kids in college, life style and other reasons why he needed a pay raise. He would sell 100 seat scope for more money because he will never fly those little jets. Short sighted to say the least.
