Worst to first

Anyone have a copy of Gordon Bethunes book "from worst to first" that they would like to hand off to Tilton? I'm reading it now and there are a lot of similarities in the 1994 Continental and the 2009 United. But what do I know....I'm just a pilot.

I wouldn't go that far.
In 94 half of CAL pilots were scabs, the union was broken and they were working for 30-50% less then the rest of the industry pay with vurtually no rules.

Gordon just walked (between running around with FA's) around departments and encourage people "to talk to each other to solve problems or we are done".

Better read from front to back and not the other way round.

Good point. I hadn't thought of that. Like I said I'm currently reading the book and I was reading the part about the stripping of the companys product and making it nothing more than a cardboard pizza.

Still reading.....

There really is a lot to the book, not just "Let's work together under bad contracts".

There is the stuff about service - cardboard pizza - but also a lot about market focus, evaluating route structure, fleets, and restructuring company debt. I think it is a good read.

Isn't there a point in there where he says he doesn't believe in asking employees for pay cuts to help the airline?

That is why he left before all the paycuts were asked for in 05.

Didn't the asking of pay cuts come 1 month after leaving? Didn't he also get years added to his longevity for a higher severance/retirement package?

The only thing left for management to do here at CAL is remove the yeast from the dough....we lost the sauce and toppings starting in 2005.
