United to fly last 737 this week
 

I know there was an article awhile back stating all the 737s will go, looks like tomorrow is the last one (sorry if this is a repeat, but I didn't see any other articles recently):

United's N331UA to operate the last 737 flight

United Airlines (Chicago) will operate the last Boeing 737 revenue between Salt Lake City and San Francisco tomorrow (October 27, 2009) with 737-322 N329UA (msn 24149). The pictured 737-322 N331UA (msn 24192) has been selected to operate the last UA 737 flight after more than 41 years. N331UA will operate a "farewell flight" on Wednesday October 28, 2009 between Washington (Dulles) and San Francisco via planned extended stops at the Chicago (O'Hare), Denver and Los Angeles hubs. N331UA will depart IAD around 0600 and arrive at SFO around 1800 on the historic goodbye flight. Both airliners will ferry to Victorville, CA for storage the following day.

The -300 was launched by SWA and USAir in 1981. According to my math... that's 28 years... unless the reporter is using some type of new fangled math.:D They were probably referring to the first 737.

I'm pretty sure that Piedmont flew the first revenue flight on the 300 and that was not until 1983.

The 737-100 made its first flight on April 9 1967 and entered service in February 1968 with Lufthansa, while the last of 30 built was delivered to Malaysia-Singapore Airlines in October 1969.
By this time however the larger capacity 1.93m (6ft 4in) stretched 737-200 was in service after it had made its first flight on August 8 1967. First delivery, to United, was that December.

Never fear, Continental still has plenty and will fit quite nicely when the completely unnecessary merger is announced.

For those who took the 'over' on the October 27th announcment date (Star Alliance Kick-off) are well within the 'money' come a few hours.

PI flew its first revenue flight on the -300 on June 1st, 1985. It was not a launch customer on the -300 but was launch customer on the -400.

This is sad, I have many, many hours turning a wrench on UAL's -300's and 500's. Although there is not an A&P out there who will miss doing a 737 brake change...lol
