I think this will be the most likely scenario. Again, it's just an opinion on my part, but CAL is in a much better financial position than UA, why would they merge with a company with such level of liability, when they can just as easily wait 'til UA goes into chapter 11 protection and align their cost structure with CAL?

Because BK has some minimum level of oversight and regulation. A merger is all the more better to line ones pockets and satisfy management avarice.

Let's not jump the gun.

1.) UA has avoided BK so far

2.) DAL/NWA are not profitable.

We can worry about mergers once items 1 and/or 2 change.

And things are now in place for it to happen if needed. It will be interesting if DAL pulls back after the merger is done and parks planes.

Just wait and watch. Lots of stuff will be hitting the latest and greatest thread over at DAL in a about four weeks.

As for UAUA. Lets see how the credit markets are. If they keep thawing they will get credit. If not, well we will see.

DAL is probably going to park 80 or so NWA jets over the next few years. Lot of that lift will be replaced. By what will come out over the next six months or so......

OK...so I am an optimist...but when will that new c series 100 seater actually be available. Seems like that is a good answer to parking the least efficient aircraft the airlines have.

2013 at the earliest. I would expect a power play on this seat segment soon. ALPA better show up.

We will also see a lot of wide body lift growth going forward. This plan has been in the works for some time, and we will probably see the results of this sooner rather than later.

Lots coming in Dec and Jan in the way of us pilots finally seeing what the master plan has been for about two years.

Too bad any C series aircraft will probably be flow by a pimple faced 19 year old for $22 an hour. It is made in Canada which makes it a "regional" aircraft. We all know the guys at the legacies are too good to fly a "regional" aircraft.
