Not saying that the TSA is top notch here, but they didn't fail in this latest terrorist attempt, the security people in AMS did. There may have been a failure to communicate stuff between some departments, but the screeners who we all love had nothing to do with this. However, I would love it if we could use the tactics that El Al uses, but this is the USA so we won't be able to. People have a right to not be profiled or body scanned and blow up an airplane just like they have the right to free speech.

And Bush said Saddam had nuclear weapons. Talk about confused. The head of the CIA told him not to include that in his State of the Union address, but he did it anyway. Genius.

There is no doubt that El Al has the best, the most thorough, the most disciplined, the most effective and the best profiling aviation security system in the world.
That said there are two reasons that it could not work in the US.

- Political Correctness. It is sad, but a reality; we're are getting further away from profiling, rather than closer.
I cannot for the life of me see any change in the horizon, regardless of how needed it may be. - Efficiency. To board an El Al flight you must check in 4 hours before departure.
On an International flight that would "perhaps" be doable.
On a domestic flight that would be a death-call to the industry.
Web-Cast, here we come.
