AirTran Pilots: Outsourcing Bad for Business

"AirTran pilots, who are represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA), have been in contract negotiations for five years and are seeking guarantees that the company will not farm out work to the lowest bidder."

Air Tran, former Value Jet pilots. You were the lowest bidder for pilot jobs in the history of the profession.

Now the low bidding you did for years, is ok when you did it, but no longer acceptable to you.
Hypocrisy, double standard thinking.

ALPA News Release

I figure it's more like waking up to the realization of the harm that can be done by managements whipsawing pilot groups against each other. Good on the AirTran guys - get scope protections, and good pay rates! Call the other guys what they are - low payed and inexperienced pilots. Save your seat from outsourcing, it's that simple.

Nice chart though. First time I've seen one like it.

Careful there, all41. Take another look at that chart and see who's been the "lowest bidder" among the network carriers for the past three years.... And who will continue to be the lowest bidder for the indefinite future as I'm confident you guys will never sign a joint contract.

Glass houses...:(

Do you find it ironic that you misspelled "professional" in your signature?

It's spelled "profeshunul."

Love the bike, and I don't disagree with what you are saying. You can however keep the attitude. It was not a bunch of inexperianced underpaid pilots who over flew thier destination or landed on a taxi way at thier hub airport, instead it was aviations elite as you would see it. We as pilots are all at risk of screwing the pooch, however being new in the business and having been sold out by the forefathers who had given up things as scope or didn't want to fly those little jets makes us no less a professional avaitor. So Maverick next time your making a point try not to spit on your brethern from high atop you perch.

Interesting ......Ironic that you spelled "brethren" and "aviator" incorrectly.

:D
