Post Crash Pad Story

Hi,

I'm a Columbia Journalism student and I'm looking for a group of pilots living in a crash pad near Newark to do a story for my master's project. I would like to interview the pilots that live there and share their individual stories. This would be a 3000-word magazine style article that will be my capstone piece toward my master's degree in journalism. If you are interested in being part of the story or know somebody who I should contact, feel free to reply to this thread or send me an email at [email protected]

Thanks,

Matthew Huisman

Good luck Matthew,

You are entering a world where even the most liberal among us considers the media to be inept, wildly inaccurate at best, and more interested in making their point than telling a legitimate and truthful story.
That being said, I wish you luck.

With few exceptions, pilots I know feel we've been unfairly generalized by the media and the general public as lazy and overpaid. You may find it difficult to find a group of pilots to trust you enough to do this--especially if you are trying to make a name for yourself.

No offense, I hope, but you likely will try to stand out with your article, and many pilots probably won't care to be used, manipulated, etc. after we already take a beating in the media.

Just out of curiosity, from what angle will you be approaching the story? Why did you choose this topic?

I lived in a crashpad with 3 nympho strippers who worked at Scores.

Oh wait; that was a movie.

Never mind.

mlhuisman,

Why not work up to a story about pilots sharing a crash pad by first doing one on flight attendants sharing a crash pad. That would be a more interesting article anyway. It would probably be easy to find a Manhattan crashpad that houses perhaps 15 flight attendants, in the two bedroom apartment. A very target rich environment.

A Master's Degree.

It could be a symbiotic or parasitic thesis. To the OP, I hope it is symbiotic.
