I spoke with a CAL individual who had to find over 500 (Yep, FIVE HUNDRED) hotel rooms for crewmembers who timed out due to this snafu. Funny thing is though, is that this bonehead is STILL EMPLOYED by the TSA. Our flights from Europe were arriving up to 12 hours late yesterday because of this so-called "security screener" SCREWUP. We had crews flying in and waiting over 3.5 hours for a gate (I guess the passenger bill of rights now kicks in and we get fined?????:rolleyes:). I think it's high time the government took some responsibity and PAID back all the airlines (especially CAL) for the inconvenience and money it cost us for THEIR blunder. We cannot stay in business like this, and we shouldn't have to pay for it either. Sooooo, does anyone think the TSA will step up to the plate and try to make everyone whole who was damaged by this? :mad:

I don't always agree with this writer, but in this article, he does make some good points and I share in many of the sentiments. So since I have declared a personal moratorium on air travel, I need to ask whether the TSA is still requiring people to remove shoes and underwear, prohibiting lav use in the last hour of the flight, and all the other reactionary nonsensical rules as a result of that numbnut on Christmas Day? They've already taken away from me 5 nail clippers and numerous bottles of shampoo and mouthwash, I am more than happy to take off my underwear for them, too! :D

Now I have never been to Yemen, but I once had a client who was from some god-forsaken village there. Maybe the TSA will do a cavity search on me based on this tenuous relationship. I dare them! :p

Makes you scratch your head and more.....this is our government's finest system at work to ensure front-line air carrier safety??

I'll be the first to agree the system is not perfect, but the lack of "attention" & non-working equipment is enough to make you want to puke.

BTW....didn't see any mention of plans in motion to recoup the cost imposed to air carrier's that were affected by this little 'slip-up'.

Don’t worry… Senator Chuckey Schumer is going initiate legislation to ensure airlines are reimbursed by TSA for lost revenue, expense for warehousing crews in hotels:rolleyes:.

Not sure there is a solution to this problem. It sucked when it was privatized too, because it became a bidding war. True to airline management style, the lowest bidder always won the contract. Sound familiar?

Like everyone said before, the TSA is a joke, and not a very funny one. If the government has a single brain cell functioning, then the airlines should be compensated. And just think about how this is negatively impacting the entire industry and the possible future monetary loss for it.

Ahhh the TSA, once again locking the barn door well after the horse has escaped.

Be careful what you wish for when you suggest the government pay for their screwup. I agree with you, but the reaction from the government to keep it from happening again may be to make the airlines provide and pay for their own security screening. Just what we need is another enormous expense that we'll have to forward to the passengers.

Well, today the Commander in Chief called for lots of newly defined mandates and job descriptions. My guess is none of that, nor the newly articulated mandatory reporting time-frames will happen without a whole lot more money being spent.

Also heard a piece on National Public Radio where some genius was calling for more pressure on the big "filthy rich" corporate airlines to pay for some of these huge new costs...
