UAL Diverts.....

Good on the pax for stepping up.....

Las Vegas Bound Flight Diverted Due to Unruly Passenger - Sphere News

TonyWilliams 01-23-2010 08:23 PM

Sounds like the pax intended to be more than just unruly. Opening a door could be deadly. Whatever was in the brown bag could have been planned to be deadly, also, by his comment when asked what was in it.... "you'll see".

But, probably just a nut job. Thanks, again, to the pax for keeping everybody safe.

BHopper88 01-23-2010 08:27 PM

Not like I will ever try it but isnt it physically impossible to open the doors inflight while pressurized.

TonyWilliams 01-24-2010 04:17 AM

At least some pressurization has injured more than one FA when she opened the door and was blown out of the cabin.

Is Washington DC now offering UAL tickets to get the homeless to go across the coast (like NYC used to give out bus tickets to SF)?

Well, if a door is 7'x3' and the press diff is 7 psi, it would take 21,168 pounds of force to open the door. The Hulk could probably do it, but not a mere mortal :D This idiot is just lucky he didn't end up dead like that Southwest pax a few years ago.

Chuck Norris could do it too. Chuck Norris can do anything. :p:D

Pretty sure they weren't airborne though...

Zoot Suit 01-24-2010 07:29 PM

News reported that he wasn't a terrorist and he was let go.

WTH? Why isn't he in jail? Why isn't he blacklisted from every American airline? Why isn't the airline suing him to recoup the costs. Why is no one responsible for their actions anymore?

I applaud the pax for taking prompt action, but obviously the people who pull these stunts are mentally ill. I feel bad for them, and it's a tragedy when they die.

He was obviously mentally ill. Maybe TSA confiscated his meds?

+1;)

Let's just call it a little "mono y mono justice"

Mr. Sandou is the man I would want sitting in Biz First if this happened on my flight.

The crew should have dropped down to 1000 AGL or so, depressurized, and helped him on his way. The world would be a better place.
