ATLANTA -- The parent of discount carrier AirTran Airways is flying high as some of its bigger rivals struggle to turn a profit.
The company on Wednesday posted a profit of $17.1 million, or 11 cents a share, for the final quarter of 2009. That's compared to a loss of $121.6 million, or $1.03 a share, in the same period of 2008.
Revenue rose 1.5 percent to $598.4 million from $589.4 million.
Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters were expecting adjusted earnings of 3 cents a share on sales of $585.4 million.
For the year, AirTran's profit of $134.7 million was a record.

PIELUT, you obviously do not work for AAI or you would know that after 5 years of contract negs and the company crying about how they still need concessions is getting old. Yes, it is good news for the company and we want the company to still be profitable, but we (pilots) are tired of the bottom feeder pay. People are ****ed....
C5 Welcome aboard, understand you will be starting class soon. Congrats, contract negs are not progressing at all. A common theme on the forums for AirTranz pilots is this: SAVE YOUR MONEY...

No I do not work for Airtran. However, one of my closest friends and a family member do work there, both are pilots. I understand why you are angry and have every right to be. I was highlighting a positive bit of information in an otherwise very negative time. This profitibility gives the pilots more leverage than if the airline was not making money. The fo wages are way too low but staying optimistic is much heathier than being p***** of all day long. Be glad you have a job, there are many who would like to be in your position.

Actually I am still furloughed (bypassed) and I am really not ****ed off at all. Just want a new contract to come back to since I am really getting tired of doing what I am doing!!!

Nice turnaround in a tough revenue environment.

Here's to massive future profits and increased pilot wages. One won't happen without the other, you know.

And the other employees too...I've been in the command center 5 yrs and I want some of the pie.
