OK....just a conversation piece. If CAL's Scope will limit JV attempts so that other airlines cannot fill in CAL flying, and United does not have that strong language...is it possible that they may fill some of that flying with United planes and get away with it or All Nippon planes and just circumnavigate the whole issue...just keeping existing CAL flights in place and eventually freeze the CAL potential growth? Seems very complicated but just hope the Unions think like management (explore all negative options) before anything is signed.

United keeps saying that the JAL thing will lead to growth.

Furthermore; It is doubtful that the JV attempt would be a gain for any of the above 3 mentioned labor groups. Rather a 4th yet unnamed airline could and would be established almost overnight (may already exist) to which flying would be outsourced.

United mainline cannot grow. They are simply rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. When recently asked on a conference call if United would add any more airframes to their fleet between now and the expected(cough) arrival of new aircraft in 2016, the UAL CFO said....NO. When the weegie board allows United to add a route like Africa, they are cancelling something else to free up the aircraft.

Some have said the CAL pilots should leverage their scope language to achieve a leading contract. Well, a 30% pay raise won't benefit you when you are either furloughed or frozen in your seat for the next 10 years because "your" flying is being outsourced. Don't believe me? Ask a United pilot.

It's time to get smart and work together amongst the different pilot groups. The airlines certainly are. Look for yourself. AIR Conference - Airline Industrial Relations Conference

Better yet, ask the ALPA language lawyers and national ALPA officers that signed the bottom of the last Midwest pilot's contract.

Keep in mind the ALPA lawyers will not stop an airline for voting a contact in. They are there as support for your own MEC's negotiating committee. While I doubt anyone on this forum was there for that negotiation, it could of been they either overlooked that language, didn't feel it was a threat, or management dangled a big enough carat to make that medicine easier to swallow.

In any case, it's usually up to us, the local pilots, to make a contract good or bad. To blame ALPA National is like blaming Obama because your lawn isn't green.
