FAA: Boeing 777s must get new software - Chicago Breaking Business
Anyone know any more about this? I don't see how you can engage the autopilot on the ground without going up on the flight guidance panel and pressing one of the buttons. Seems like there is more to the story that someone who actually flies the airplane can explain.

Kinda like the Toyota computer issues with throttle by wire. How many times does it have to happen before it's officially a problem?
"Boeing says the problem is rare -- just nine reported instances of a rejected takeoff because of inadvertent engagement of the autopilot during the 777's 15-year service history"

The software (provided by Honeywell - not Boeing) has been available for retrofit for a couple of months and has been included on new production airplanes since at least November. The FAA is just now getting around to issuing the AD.
