US airways-Delta Merger?

Didn't US Airways just merge (aquire) America West? Now they want to eat up Delta too? The balls of US Airways.

Wasn't it America West that threw the life ring to U.S. Airways? Maybe I'm way in left field on that. If true though soon we could all be working for the same airline's then we can stop b1tching at each other for all the back stabbing :)

Whatever happened to the "talks" that NWA and DAL were having about merging? Wasn't that just a few months ago?

For some odd reason I feel Delta will want to continue on their own, unless THEY are the ones doing the merging. Their history of airline aquisitions has been set, and I doubt they will allow themselves to become another companies aquisition. (spell check?)

You're right.... and for some reason, they kept the US Airways brand instead of America West. Any HP pilots out there know why they did that? :confused:

Whaever they did, it was the right move, because they just made an enormous quarterly profit.

They did it because US Air has better brand recognition on the east coast, and in the lucrative European market, Cactus had no brand recognition whatsoever. Purely a marketing decision.


A HP / DAL merger seems pretty far-fetched, but when I first heard rumors of the HP / USAir merger I didn't believe that for a second either...oops :eek:

And then on to some of the irregularities:



Headquarters moved to the AWA facility in PHX.

Most accounting documents state that AWA was the acquiring carrier for financial purposes ... ( It would be hard to comprehend how USAir in bankruptcy could acquire anything, so that makes sense ...)

AWA now does business as (dba) USAirways ... and actually became a wholly owned subsidary of a holding company that owns BOTH airlines ...

Training/checking will still occur east & west

The USAir certificate will be the surviving certificate and managed out of the PIT FSDO I believe ...

AND BEST OF ALL ... Both pilot groups are engaged in a learning process that involves merging all manuals and philosophies to insure that absolutely no one knows what they are supposed to be doing for the next few months ...:eek:
