If you are in uniform, you are exempt. If you are commuting, jumpseating, whatever....you are exempt. The problem will come if you try and do that stuff out of uniform and did not check your bag.

But not all TSA people at every airport are consistent. Plus, if originating from UK, even operating flightcrew have to check bags. Ridiculous, but really happening.

Holistic Pilot ID

The FAA should issue a national one time photo pilot ID with every new hire 121 FO or ATP licence. The issuance should include a one time background check and career tracking. The same ID could be updated and used at every company and airport to gain entry and as official ID. A simple swipe could verify currency, security clearances, medical validity, employment and airport privileges. Not only would this relieve the burden of employers to preform the 10 year background check but it would be a more positive evidence of identity and abilities.

SkyHigh

Just a simple idea.

This is a read file from my company. It is dated the 10th, so things might have changed, but as of yesterday, I haven't seen any. Also ALPA's Fast Read also pointed out "uniformed FLIGHT CREWMEMBERS" are exempt. I read that as a working crew, not a "commuter/jumpseater".?

SECURITY DIRECTIVE

Due to recent developments, the Unites States is on a heightened security alert.

Newly increased security measures are temporarily in effect.

Possession of the following items will not be permitted in the cabin and these items will be confiscated from pax at security check points. This list provides examples of prohibited items but is not all-inclusive:

• Liquids (e.g. Visine, cough syrup, alcohol)
• Gels (e.g. gel deodorants)
• Creams (e.g. hand creams, tooth paste)

Increased scrutiny during security searches is to be expected. Van pick-up times are being temporarily adjusted so that crews will arrive at the aircraft 1 hour prior scheduled departure. Crew Scheduling is advising all down line crews via telephone. Please do not adjust the van pick-up times. This is expected to go through at least Sunday 8/13.

• Uniformed crew members will be exempt from these searches, as well as the confiscation of their personal articles fitting the above descriptions.

• Deadheading crewmembers are encouraged to travel in uniform to avoid this expected inconvenience and possible delay.

Jumpseating crewmembers are not exempt.

On the aircraft: Crewmembers are expected to be alert to their surroundings. While crewmembers are not expected to be policemen, should a prohibited item come to your attention during the course of your duties, it is to be confiscated and given to the gate agent.

Cooperation with security and TSA representatives is expected of all crewmembers. Should an issue arise at a security checkpoint, cooperate with TSA, and report the incident to Flight Ops management for further action.

We will continue to provide you with updates as additional information becomes available.

BTW, ALMOST took a delay today out of ACY. I made sure that ALL the crew members bags were intact, and onboard up in the FWD cargo, before we pushed. But the gate agents, and everyone was on top of things (thank God {is that P.C.?}), and we actually pushed with 5 mins to spare.

I've been through Security for a Deadhead in uniform and all went normal. No hassles what so ever. That may change at another airport because it seems that TSA personnel are the last ones to read their own regs and change bulletins.

Deadhead, or jumpseat? And was it through a security point where your airline flys, or the same terminal.
Interesting on the news tonight. They said it was up to the individual agent to make the decision on whether to allow certain items through ("normal" pax).
