DAL non-rev lost/late bag question.

I just flew into as a non-rev into LHR. However, my checked bag never showed up along with a bunch of revenue passenger bags. Baggage service desk said they will be arriving on the next flight. I am on my way to Glasgow for personal business. Will Delta send the bags to Glasgow airport? I know Delta will not deliver to an address for non-revs. Or do I have to go back to LHR to pick it up? :( The baggage agent does not know for sure.... thanks for a quick response.

Since they won't deliver for non-rev's, I bet you are out of luck.

Your best bet is to retrieve your bag at LHR the next day. The more instruction you give to LHR Ops would only add confusion to the situation. Keep it simple, and keep your fingers crossed. I know it sucks to lose your bag...

Go read the non-rev policy on bags on the travelnet site.

As I recall they will not deliver non-rev bags, and in some instance we they are not responsible for lost bags either.

I would also check and see what flight it is on as there are a few flights there a day.

Thanks. The station ops told me that they will send it to Glasgow....eventhough I'm a non-rev. I'll just have to collect it from the airport. They said they just can't send it out of an airport for delivery to an address for non-revs. So hopefully I'll get it here in Glasgow. If not...I'll collect it from LHR on my way back.

That's very nice of them. I hope it'll all work out for you!

Why would they not deliver for a non-rev?
Is that company policy?
I have had both AA and SK deliver non-rev bags to the door.

Cost savings. They contract out baggage delivery and I'm guessing it's on a per-bag basis. I'm guessing AA and SK have a similar policy and you just got lucky. This is just my opinion.

Cost. It is between $75-100 to deliver a bag. Since we paid nothing for the ticket, we are non contributing zeroes as far as getting bags delivered to us.

The problem I ran into a few months back is that your bags can end up in purgatory. I was traveling out of PIT-ATL and our bags didn't make the flight. They sat in PIT for three days because you have to get a file started for them to initiate a lost bag return. However, as a non-rev they don't do files. Ergo, my bags were stuck in PIT. I was getting so frustrated over the whole thing I nearly JS'd up to PIT to retrieve in person my lost bags. Finally after getting several managers involved were we able to get the bags sent to ATL. Total hassle.

The problem I see with this is that we no longer pay nothing for the seat. I now have to pay a yearly fee to sign my myself and anyone else I add to my privileges(wife, kids, parents). While I agree I am still getting a seat for almost nothing and its still an easy way to get around, its no longer free. When you make people pay for something, no matter how cheap, you now have a greater responsibility to them.

Update on my case:

DAL sent the bags to Glasgow airport free of charge to me. I just picked it up from Glasgow airport. :)

According to LHR ops...the only difference between revenue and non-revs are: For revenue they deliver the bags to home/hotel/office. For non-revs, they deliver the bags to the nearest airport from your home/hotel/office.

The guidance on lost bags on non-rev policies is a bit confusing: It just says you'll have to pick it from the airport baggage desk. It does not say WHICH airport baggage service desk....the airport you arrived at or the airport near your address. I think different airport ops intepret this differently. If you're in LHR, you're in luck....they will send it to any airport in Europe.

Thanks for all the responses.

Thats too bad. I worked much smoother for me here at LHR. I guess it depends from airport ops to airport ops. I wish we had more of a standard system so we know what to expect. Well....we're just non-revs. However....it is part of our employment package. Cannot let them treat it like $hit.

I don't disagree with you at all on this. Any more, I am buying tickets because the flights are to full to chance. Maybe I'm lucky that in 14 years in this business, that was the first time I've had my bags lost. That said, I don't expect them to deliver the bags to my residence, but to not be able to get them on the next flight when the bag was cleared through security, was assigned to me and I'm in ATL but the bag is stuck in PIT waiting on me to be cleared on a future flight I can't possibly take was BS.

You are also dealing with a different work ethic abroad.:) ATL can be brutal from the apathy shown by certain employees.
