Currently the most junior capt and fo are both at BWI. OAK, MDW, and BWI are all real close in juniority. A newhire could probably be in any of those bases by choice within two months. DAL, PHX, HOU, and MCO go more senior.

bmxandjets 08-13-2006 06:31 AM

thanks SWAcapt, i still have to log some more leftseat PIC time, but hopefully will be eligible for submission of application in the next 6 months or so, and have been wanting to relocate to the pacific northwest eventually and thought oakland would be a good crew base. thanks for your feedback.

SWAcapt 08-13-2006 09:56 AM

BMX, I have a couple friends who live on Whidbey Island and also Seattle who do the oakland commute. As much as I love SWA and feel very blessed to be here, I would advise you to really look at your options. We all have different goals and make decissions for different reasons. I personally would not commute by choice. If I had to live in Seattle for some critical reason, I'd be looking at Alaska Airlines. If my desire to work for SWA was greater than my desire to live in a certain area, I would look closely at our 7 domiciles (rumor has it we will announce #8 next month) and pick one to live in. Our schedules are written as AM lines and PM lines. It is very difficult to get commutable lines, ie you'll be flying in the night before an AM or spending the night after a PM. That could be another 4 nights away from home. Just something to think about. Good luck with your hour building and your application process....it's a great place to be.;)

bmxandjets 08-13-2006 02:32 PM

thanks for the advice SWA, i know what you mean about living where you work, what a great gig that would be, but, I'm really wanting to live in the great city of Portland OR and also work for the great company SWA, or someother company as well. as for now, my desire to live there outweighs my desire for more days off....for now anyways... thanks again.

SWAcapt - I agree completely. How long to hold HOU, even on reserve?

It took the junior HOU FO 4 months to get there. First bid line was OAK, second and third were MDW and then HOU for SEP.

ERJ135 08-17-2006 04:14 AM

What will be there new base? LAS?

SWPilot3 08-18-2006 07:39 PM

I heard rumors DEN or TPA. And I think they’re going to announce it in September. Has anyone heard anything to substantiate that?

v2plus25 08-19-2006 01:07 PM

My money's on DEN

According to the base coordinators where I'm based we're announcing the base this week. She didn't know where it would be obvioulsly but the usual rumors are LAS, BNA, MCI, TPA and SMF. Let's all hold our breath......:p

Actually, I was listening to a couple of SWA guys talking on the crew bus in MCO and 2 of them said that if it was BNA that they would go in a heartbeat. To each his own I guess...

That would be nice, not that I need to worry about it for another few years.

328dude 08-31-2006 12:39 AM

I hope it's MCI, but only because I live in TUL. I'm in the pool, so I have some time decide what would be the best commuting option for me. I know DAL is very senior, so I'm thinking HOU or MDW.

Any input would be appreciated.

Don't commute! With now 7 and soon 8 bases to choose from... pick one to live in. ;)

(HCDAW) 09-16-2006 07:24 AM

Is there any new word on if/when a new pilot base will be announced and what that base may be?

DaveP2 09-16-2006 12:16 PM

How Long?

This may be a bit off topic, but SWA just called me for an interview for next month. How long have you been in the hiring pool, 328? Is the wait going to change any in the near future?

Thanks,

Dave.

328dude 09-16-2006 07:35 PM

Dave:

I've only been in the pool since the end of August, so not to long. Seems like the class schedule keeps changing and the PD is not real sure what the current status is of future class dates. Hopefully not to much longer.

Good luck on your interview.

xjtnj 09-16-2006 08:02 PM

When?

Dave.. When you headed down? I have one coming up too.

xjtnj 09-16-2006 08:04 PM

328.. Let us know what date you get for class. Hey.. did you have your type prior to going? (Figured I would ask)

I haven't scheduled it yet.

For what it's worth, I know one guy hired without a 73 type rating and both my friend and I were called for interviews w/o the type rating.

Good luck to you.

Dave

I certainly will. I had the type since 2004 (HPA) and finally got called last month for the interview. The PD schedule's class dates by your interview date so keep that in mind when you schedule them.

I fall into that as well.. I am not sure if they gave you any dates yet, but I know they offered the 16-19th to me. Hope that helps.

BigCity 09-17-2006 04:43 PM

I just got an email for an interview as well. Two questions...
How long after applying do you get called for an interview? I DO NOT have a type. I had heard a couple of years. Only a few months for me.
Anybody get hired without the type and did you do a prep and where?

Thanks

Took me about a year to get the call. I found out they are hiring people without the type, just gotta go get it before class.
