LAX Employee Parking
 

This is almost embarrassing, but.... I will be among the many ASA pilots going to LAX in DEC. I'm told that there is an entire section of the employee parking lot full of RV's that people are using as a crash pad. Given the high cost of apartments, transportation issues, etc. I'm begining to think this is a good idea.

Does anyone have any information?
Can you do it?
cost of parking @ Lax?
Camp sites near by?

any other info that you think might help will be appreciated.

There are 6 big, huge employee lots at LAX. The "B" lot used to have many RVs in their lot, but all have since been banned. In the "D" lot, there are no 'overnight' -type vehicles allowed. Now, with security the way it is, I doubt they'll let anyone stay in employee lots overnight in any vehicle.

Try crash pads; they are close by, many are competitive, offer hotel transportation nearby, and are less than 5 minutes from terminals.

Hotels are not cheap.

Done that for 2 1/2 years.
Monthly rate for RVs in Lot B is $30. Your airline might reimburse you.
Constant, free shuttle service from the lot to the terminal.
Climate year round is camper friendly - not to cold, not to hot.
Safe - some 'campers' are Airport Police, TSA, Airline folks.

Airport tried to bann all RV parking a while ago but some United Mechanics have managed to work something out. Contact them (I'll try to find a phone number for you - but can't promise)
AA and AE employees have their own RV parking at the former TWA lot.

About 2 miles away is a RV lot at the beach - dump tanks and get fresh water for $5. Dockweiler or something like that.

For what you pay for a crashpad you can pay off a RV - and it is tax deductable.

Good Luck - I wish I could hang out in my RV at the beach and not sit in an expensive pad in NY.

I hate to be the negative nelly here but its a sad statement about our industry when people need to "live in a van down by the river" to work.

I stand corrected; I heard they put a stop to all the overnight vehicles. Sorry!

Down by the river? Wow! Water frontage! Must be really nice! :)

I guess I'm going to have to fly there and look into this myself. I've got two different people that are sure of opposite things.

anyone based in LAX that is currently doing the RV thing? That would solve the matter once and for all.

Anybody landing on 25L in LAX could answer...

Look to your left on short final, if you see a bunch of RVs in the lot it is still possible. All the 'normal' people were banned. Airport employees did work something out with the airport - last I heard.
