Alaska Air Adds 790 Seats To Holiday Bowl

790 seats is better than nothin, I suppose. This ought to add to Ayer's bonus. Why not go whole hog and charge an extra premium?

Addition: As a graduate of both institutions, I admit to being conflicted, so I'm going to cheer for both equally.

From Seattle Times:

Bowing to the demand of Washington Huskies football fans looking to travel to the Holiday Bowl, Alaska Airlines has opened up roughly 790 seats on its Seattle-to-San Diego flights in the days leading up to the Dec. 30 game.

The seats went on sale Wednesday evening, said Marianne Lindsey, a spokesperson for the airlines.

A story in Wednesday's Seattle Times quoted one travel service official as saying that airfare "is virtually impossible to come by" for UW fans hoping to attend the school's first bowl game since 2002. UW will play Nebraska in the Holiday Bowl.

Lindsey said Alaska was able to find additional seats by putting bigger airplanes on the Seattle-to-San Diego routes.

"It's just the demand from the customers," she said.

Prices, however, aren't expected to drop.

UW reported that it sold more than 5,000 tickets to the game on the first day they were available after the announcement of the matchup was made Sunday night.

Those SEA-SAN flights are usually packed anyway. While adding 790 seats isn't much, it should definitely help.

Go Huskies!!

It's a shame, 6-6 teams shouldn't be bowl eligible, I mean really?

If only there was some sort of a rail system to go from Seattle to SoCal...o wait.

Shut up. :D GO BIG ORANGE... 6 and 6 and damn happy to be so.

It's all about the money anyway.

I actually agree. A 6-6 team shouldn't be going to a bowl, but I'll take it. There are definitely too many bowls right now. The 1988 Husky team went 6-5 and did not get invited to a bowl game. How times have changed.

Yeah, times have changed. Remember Don James? He considered 6-5 a losing season... That was back when they expected to win the national championship every year...

And what was the graduation rate??

Who cares about THAT? Apparently not the University of Miami... the went to having one of the highest in the country, but because they weren't winning, Donna Shalala? (of Bill Clinton fame) fired coach Shannon... Even The great Michael Irvin.. the class act that he is... said the U needed more thugs. Tragic, but it speaks volumes about the American culture. I LOVE college football, but what has happened at the U is sickening. Coach Shannon did a marvelous thing there, and was pretty much vilified for it.

I'm surprised Shannon got fired. Granted, I haven't been paying attention to the Miami Hurricanes that much lately. I know they are not world beaters any more but, like you said, Shannon did a fine job over there.

Addressing Mookie's question about player graduation rate, I don't know what it was under Don James. I think it was decent.

I can speak with 100% certainty about graduation rates under Neuheisel and Ty Willingham. Neuheisel's players had a higher graduation rate than Willingham. An article was published about 3 years ago about college football player graduation rates, and UW's dipped after Willingham took over. I was never a fan of Rick's, but he seemed to have a knack for getting the most out of his players at that time.

Willingham, on the other hand, is a loser both on and off the field. Anyway, sorry to digress into football discussion here.

Back to mergers & acquisitions...
